Am I the only person who really wants Squier to start making a Squier Jim Root Strat? Same cosmetics and feel like Fender version but price tag like the Squier Jim Root Tele.

I have had a Fender MIM Jim Root Tele apart. There really is nothing terribly special about it.
Putting together your own JR Strat would allow you free choice over the pickups. I wouldn't bother with the EMG-81/-60 pair. Go for -X models or the new ones with exposed polepieces.
I really like the Jim Root models : Mahogany body, the rounded Deluxe plate heel, String-Thru, simplified control setup in my ideal location, and ebony fretboard (or maple). My only dislike is the lack of inlays.
Lest we forget, the Squier Jim Root Telecaster models feature high output passive humbuckers rather than active EMGs. This, alone, is a major component in the MSRP of the Fender MIM models or any DIY imitation that you care to create.
