Squier M80 pickup choice

I'm sorry, I know this has been asked a lot, but I don't really found the answer I've been looking for.

I have a Squier M80 special, the one without fret markers, bolt on neck, rosewood fingerboard, basswood body, I think the neck is mahogany, but not sure on this.

I've alway loved the tone the SH-4 produces and I'm thinking of getting one. My question is it any good in basswood or the specs I mentioned above?

a friend of mine has a squire m80 and we ended up with a jazz neck and jb bridge after a bunch of swapping.

I have a basswood Charvel Holdsworth with a JB(alnico 2). The pickup sounds just like "Cause We've Ended as Lovers".

I always thought the M80 was one of the sweetest designs Squier ever made. I kick myself sometimes for not snagging one when they were still made. What color did you get? Also, didn't that come with Duncan Designed's?

Sorry for late reply, I've been busy, mine is the other model, it didn't come with duncan designed pups, that's why I want to change it. The pups are not bad for a stock pickup.
Mine is black, without fret inlay which I totally love.

Now it's time to save up for a SD SH-2!
