Squier Telecaster Custom

i'm considering this guitar

http://www.squierguitars.com/products/search.php?partno=0327502506

i'm poor. i wish i could spring for the fender $700 one, but not at the moment.

i'm going to attempt a "pagecaster" and do the jimmy page wiring. assuming most music stores dont let you open guitars with a screw driver, is there enough room in the control cavity to do so (4 push pulls)?

also, any other thoughts about this guitar, please chime in. i know the construction will be a gamble, but i'm going to gut and replace the electronics, especially the pickups.

ty!

there will be room to install the push pulls.

but honestly, after you pay for good electronics and good pickups, that could be another 150 bills. put it aside and save for the fender or search around for a japanese squier

noted.

but whatever "fender" guitar i get i'm going to replace the pickups anyway. so if i save up, i would then have to save up even more. the next step up for products avail with pickups would put me close to $1000.

so i'm willing to blow $200-300 for "research and development" and look for the higher ups down the road.

find a well made one and take it home, and you should have a good pagecaster. I'm interested in those same Squiers, except with P-90s.

Personally, I don't like that the body is Agathis and that the fretboard radius is 7.25" but that's just me. You may totally dig those specs.

I very much like the Tele Deluxe (what this guitar is based off of). I've always enjoyed the sound of the Wide Range 'buckers, but standard 'buckers would work just fine too.

Re: Squier Telecaster Custom

I have found the Vintage Modified guitars to be pretty good overall. They usually have a decent setup and decent tonallity when played acoustically. They are as good as most MIM's I've played. Unless you want to get back all you paid for the guitar plus all the improvements, go for it. if you want to stay closer to what you have in it and not "play-the-cost-out" then wait for a more saleable instrument. But if you are looking for a 'do a little and enjoy the heck out of it' guitar.....then go for it!!!
