I’m so glad that someone here has one of those guitars. It makes my heart happy. Lew was a good guy with lots of knowledge to share.

yep. he could be a bit cranky at times, but we talked a fair amount over the years. he was a good guy with a big heart. when i first got the guitar, i was worried the neck was too small for me, and he was bummed cause he loved it so much, but i got used to it. im happy to keep in the family so to speak.

Mine was pretty close to standard thickness as I remember

I know the bullet is thinner , I still have it
The standard is full thickness, still have it
The Affinity has moved on. I can't check but I remember it was thicker than the bullet, and close if not thw same as the standard

I was literally looking at discount strats earlier today

The Amazon has a Fesley FST1000 on sale now for $165 USD

it was $300 this time last year and the YT reviewers said it was a bargain

Rolled fretboard edges and wilkerson pickups and bridge

Grover tuners

Full sized body and neck

I really have to pinch myself to not grab one just for the sake of it.

I was going through my stuff, and I realized I have enough parts to put together another Hot Rod Strat. I have a big steel block, brass saddles, vintage locking tuners, HXX pickguard, pickups, knobs, etc... I just need something that has a neck profile that I like, and that fits standard Strat stuff so that I can use the stuff that I have.

I figured an Affinity would be a good bet because they're cheap enough that I probably will treat it more as a fun project rather than expect it to like it as much as my Les Pauls, like I did last time with the Fender Road Worn.

They surely will have Affinities at the store. I'll see if I can try one. Just feel kinda discouraged by the thinner body because bye bye thick trem block.

Honestly as far as teles go if you dont mind changing pickups and electronics( you are on a pickup forum). The Squier affinitys are quiet the bargain for teles. Some of them are very resonant.
Now affinity strats not so much with the tiny pot metal sustain block and thin bodies.

For some reason, Fender decided that it won't be as easy to upgrade their lower models. Screw holes don't line up all the time. Different tuner footprints. It is annoying when you find an inexpensive guitar with good bones that you want to have fun upgrading.

My Tele i tell everyone its a partscaster but actually its an affinity from about 8yrs ago.
My freind had it, stripped it to natural(4peace body lol but with what looks like PINE veneer top and back) he refinished the neck in laquer and added a 52' RI bridge pup from a mij RI. Sold it to my dad, I inherited it. I 0000 steel wooled the whole neck, added schaller tuners full size pots and an orange drop cap. This guitar i hate to say fights with my Gibson LP Jr for #2 slot behind my #1SG. And it has a pretty dark rosewood board( not USA indian rosewood dark) but as good as most MIM rosey fretboards.
Its a giant killer Ive played USA teles that were much less inspiring.

If it's a hardtail

Then the trem block wont matter

I don't use a trem bar at all

I still want one of those Fesley guitars
I just cant see adding one to my bloated collection

No, yeah, I'm aware. It's just that if my trem block is not going to fit, then I'd rather have a hardtail.

Honestly, I'd just rather have a hardtail overall. Even if it has the best trem in the world, given the choice, I'd rather have a cheapie hardtail. But if it has to have a trem, like 99.9% of Strats do, I'd rather my block fits.

Played a few Strats today at the store. Sonic, Affinity, and Classic Vibe. I liked them all, honestly. Neither felt bad for being cheapies.

The neck profiles weren't far off from each other. They were kinda C-shaped middle of the road in thickness. I liked them. I did like the satin finish on the Affinity and Sonic better. Sonic felt a tad thicker? Maybe. Not really sure. But the Classic Vibe felt stickier/slower, but not bad.

Aesthetically, I liked the smaller headstock on the Sonic better than the 70's headstock on the Affinity. I liked the screenprint logo on the Affinity better, though. Looked less like bottom of the barrel cheap guitar, LOL. But not a deal breaker.

The hardware kinda sucked on all of them, but I've got my own.

I think I'm going to get the hardtail Sonic Strat soon and take it in for a fretjob.

OOOO steel wool on the back of the neck and even fingerboard. Then rub the finish back to a shine with a microfiber cloth. I do all my guitars.
I could do that. But from I honestly kinda like the simplicity of the Sonic HT H. The Classic Vibes come with better hardware and pickups... but I have the hardware and pickup I want already, so that's not really appealing to me.

The only thing that I still would like from the CV's is the full-thickness body... but the Sonic has the hardtail, the satin neck from the factory, and the much lower pricetag.

To me, that's kinda the a plus in it being a "fun project" and not a guitar I spent so much effort on that is still not quite up to par with my Les Pauls, which is kinda what my Mexican Strat became.
