Re: Squier Vintage Modified Tele: Custom vs. Custom II

I just got a custom yesterday. I might have a 72 tele pickguard laying around....

Re: Squier Vintage Modified Tele: Custom vs. Custom II

The OP was inviting suggestions for ANOTHER Tele in addition to however many he already owns.

The Squier Tele Custom II is a cracking little guitar. (I would say this. I own one.) On the other hand, all of the advantages of the Custom II can be had by buying a Custom and retrofitting P-Rails. With three-way mode switching, the Squier Custom could conceivably replace one of the OP's existing instruments.
Yeh I understood that I was just saying don't be swayed away by one because it has not so good pickups as they are easy to replace. I'd Probably personally go HB then change the pickups to either HB sized P90's or something else entirely. Thats mainly because I have a few single coil teles in the house.

For me, it would be the Custom 2; specifically for the P-90s.

Unless you want to fill & drill the screw holes, and have a overlap towards the bridge, it won't fit. I have ordered a warmoth tele deluxe body before, and tried to fit the stock p/g from the squier custom, and it wasn't even close. The only p/g I have found to work with the squier custom is this one:

Re: Squier Vintage Modified Tele: Custom vs. Custom II

I love the idea of the P-Rails in a Custom. But I've gotten to the point that I can't even picture using P-Rails without Triple Shot-style switching.

But it looks like there's a lot of real estate on that pickguard to put in extra switches.

That's the answer! Custom with P-Rails and seriously customized switching setup.

There's your best choice. Okay> We're all done here. We can all go home now.

Re: Squier Vintage Modified Tele: Custom vs. Custom II

I'd get the custom 2, simply because the pickups are better quality, and maybe i read wrong, but the custom 2 is string through body and the 1 aint.

Re: Squier Vintage Modified Tele: Custom vs. Custom II

good point re the string-through body. the custom 2 def is, anyone know for sure about the custom 1?

i wonder what you could do with p-rails, triple shots and 4 DPDT pots...

Please tell me you're in a band that performs musical adaptations of Shakespeare's works in the style of George Thorogood.

They are both string thru, I have owned a the humbucker kind of Custom.

I liked the humbucker one since it's easier to get replacement pickups!
I Had a CC in mine and eventually a D-Activator.

Min was a POS though. From the factory, A screw was screwed into the neck... from the back ( I think from the back?!) and broken off halfway, & left in there. They drilled a hole in the pocket for it, then forced the neck on an drilled and screwed the 4 neck bolts. The one next to the broken off screw had to go in on a funky angle. It was insane getting the neck to come off at first, the broken screw was holing onto the neck pocket pretty tight! I thought it was glued at first!
Oh and there was a gouge in the 3rd fret, and the ntut had to be shimmed.
