ssl-3 vs ssl-7 for bridge

Hey guys! just joined this forum.

I am split between two single coil pickups for the bridge position of my american strat; the ssl-3, and the ssl-7.

I would like some opinions on these two. Obviously I can read the descriptions, but I would like some feedback from some players who have actually had these in their guitars.

I want a hot pickup that retains some strat character. I also want it to be pretty beefy.

I think the ssl-3 is slightly hotter, and I think it retains more strat flavor than the Quarter Pound does.

But I do like the idea of fattening up my tone with the ssl-7; and it's still pretty hot.

Please give me some advice on this because I am about to go insane trying to decide!!

welcome to the forum!

i havent used the qp staggered in a while but i have a guitar with the qp flat in the bridge that gets a fair amount of play.

the ssl3 has a rounder top end with a thicker mid range, where the qp has a bigger bottom and more aggressive top end. both are significantly higher output and hotter sounding than a vintage strat pup.

Thanks for the input! I'll take that into consideration. Because the ssl-4 and ssl-7 are more or less the same, besides the flat poles.

If I decided to go with the Quarter Pound (ssl-4/ssl-7) would I loose most of the strat sound and character?

to me, both the hot and the qp both lose quite a bit of the strat flavor.

the custom for strat (ssl5/ssl6) keeps much more of that flavor but isnt as high output or thick as either the hot or qp
