I am sure I am missing something, but the site says the SSL-5 is the custom staggered and that they are like 6.5k output tapped and 14.8k output untapped, what the heck does that mean! :)

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

Re: SSL-5 Questions

From Duncan's site:

A coil tap refers to a lead connected to an individual coil’s winding and is used to raise and lower a pickup’s output and change its tone. This is most often utilized on single coil pickups where the player wants a higher output pickup but also wants to be able to switch to a lower output and more vintage-type tone using the same pickup.

Re: SSL-5 Questions

To put it simply, when they're winding the pup coil, they stop halfway and connect a wire, (the tap), and then continue winding the pup. So you can operate it full-on or at half power. I've got several "tapped" singles and its definitely worth having. For the cost of a switch its like having two pups in one: vintage and hot. ;)
