yeah, it would .. which i kinda why i was poking fun (at myself) ... i tend to go overboard with hot rodding the switching of coils on my axes :D

I think it's a cool idea. Like Artie said, humbucker mode on it isn't anything special. Make it out of two stacked single coil-sized 'buckers, and there'd most likely be something special in all modes. Full humbucking, inside coil, outside coil, parallel, in phase, out of phase. The idea actually sounds like a good one. It'd bear a close resemblance to the Classic Stack in split mode.

What do you mean by "the close proximity of the other 'set'"?

I just mean that when you turn off one coil, you can't turn off its magnets. You have the additional magnetic power of a complete "extra" set of A2's laying right beside your active coil. In a Stag Mag, the pole pieces are the magnets, just like in a "normal" single.

Ya, I understood that, that's what gives it the real single coil tone when it's split, as opposed to splitting a traditional humbucker with a bar magnet and steel slugs and/or screws.

So, what you're saying is that the power of the 12 pole pieces working together with the single coil gives it a tone more like the Vintage Flat than say the Alnico II Pro, right?

Yeah, pretty much. Although, I'm just guessing on that part, since its been awhile since I had mine. I just seem to remember it sounding like my SSL-1.

btw - the 3 hour delay on that response was due to me laying down on the coach and falling asleep. :)

I love the set I have in my 79 Electra. I had a Stag custom wound to 18.6 , in double cream, for my bridge. I have a stock Stag in the neck. I found that I liked the neck pup better turned upside down. It gives it a real chimie single coil sound and kicks in the humbucker position.

I have found that most neck pickups are to loud and booming, and this was the answere for me. I have my guitar set up with a 6 way rotory switch so I can split inside outside, parralel, in series, out. They sound realy great. My cousins has a recorder I will try and get a couple of clips posted for you.

Sounds cool Tyler. I'm glad to hear that the SM is working out for you . . . since you got my "other" one. Now that you describe it - I think I want another one. :D

I'll keep an eye out for the clip. Should be cool.

I had a Stag Mag in an Ibanez Roadstar (I'm giving away my age), and loved it. I could get Brian May type tones when I tweaked the mids and gain. I liked the P-90-ish thing it had. So as much as I defend it, it has it's own thing going on. Not your average HB, but it has personality.
