Peter, I haven't heard of Frisket Film. What is it? Do you know if it can be had in the States?
yes just google Frisket film, its used a lot by graphic artists and spray painters.
I also use it directly on bare wood, prior to spraying, i use it for masking, and also for masking up the bridge position on acoustic guitar tops before spraying.
its not expensive, and it doesnt bleed, you obviously have to make your raw timber as smooth as possible, thats done simply with moving up the grit scale with sanding, and prior to application of stain/lacquer polishing it up with 0000 grade steel wool, and then a final polish with a medium rough clean cloth., Yes, the cloth has a cutting effect on wood.
I was put onto Frisket by a very respected acoustic builder.
I used to use gold masking tape, pinstriping tape, all manner of things... its pretty much all been chucked in the bin, and the frisket is what I use now.
