Stands for amp heads?

Aside from the cabinet it's running into or a padded rack for touring, what readily-available product would you recommend for putting an amp head on so it was easy to get to?

Right now I'm using a single X-frame keyboard stand, but thought about a double-level, until I realized the top one is angled down.

Amp/cab/combo stands might work, but the cab usually sits about 6" off the floor at most. I'd want it at least waist high.

I do have a spare computer shelf, but I'm not convinced it could sustain the weight for long, though it could be reinforced. However, it's also being used for other equally important tasks currently.

Suggestions?

Re: Stands for amp heads?

Ah, I was not aware they could be height-adjusted.

Home depot / Lowe's / OSH / etc, have tons of reasonably priced shelving options...

Thought about that as well, but was concerned about the weight capacity and material density. If I have to do extensive reinforcing, I may as well get some 2x10s and 4x4s and make it idiot proof.

I'm partial to short book shelves

folding chairs

wicker bar stools

Marshall JCM800 100w head on a folding chair made in China for your average 5'4" Chinaman? I'm 6'3". Bending over that far to tweak a head ain't happening

Add Costco to that list.

"We'll have to take the shuttle to Furniture, it's about a 4-hour walk"

Hmmm. Yet another market for me to exploit.... :D

Re: Stands for amp heads?

I have one of the PS 400 amp head stands. Bought it decades ago to use with my SUNN Solos II 212 combo.

These stands are probably more desirable and coveted than the amp they were designed for. Mine is DEFINITELY NOT for sale, lol. Probably take it to my grave. ☺

Re: Stands for amp heads?

I've got a keyboard on one of these
says it would hold 110 pounds
Mine I would trust it up to 75
it would be the definition of "Top Heavy"

Re: Stands for amp heads?

I bought a shelving unit that can hold up to 1500lbs (300lb per shelf) and all my heads are stacked there.

Re: Stands for amp heads?

Gotta be able to hold 2 heads, preferably one above the other, with room for heat dissipation.

Hmmm. Maybe. Hafta put the head in it "backwards" and turn it around so the knobs point up. But then, the TR head has stuff al across the back panel that the suppert arms might block (Murphy's Law says it's the good stuff, too).

Actually, I might get that for my large-format HP DJ90 printer

More speaker cabs or other amp heads are my go-to storage solutions.

Not really an option for me. If I do get another cab, it'll be for my Fender head, and will be in the "cabinet room" with the other two. Also got a whacky plan to convert my 4x12 into a "dual 2x12" where 2 speakers are used by the 800 and the other two for the Rec, then use my Carvin 2x12 for my Fender head. The 4x12 (Mesa Halfback) can be set up either as half-open/half-closed back or dual open-back, and the Carvin is more like a "mostly-open" back (panel comes up about halfway).

An industrial-style shelf unit would be nice, like this:

but I'm looking at the feet of it, though they do appear to be folded under rather than just bare-corner angle-iron. Nice for concrete in a warehouse, but I don't have concrete floors. I suppose I could drop a sheet of plywood under it, or maybe some small thick pads. If the feet are drilled, I could mount pads. Hmmm. Definitely a contender.

I was also looking at this:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/acce...0-2-tier-double-braced-x-style-keyboard-stand

As I'm already cramped for space, and would need the head stand to be fairly portable (or at least easy to move). Most of the 2-tier KB stands I've looked at are made so the top tier leans forward, except this one.

The weight limits are the big concern, of course. It says the bottom tier can hold 150 lbs, which is of course not an issue, but it says the top tier can hold 50 lbs, and Mesa's specs say the Triple Rectifier head weighs 48 lbs unboxed while AMS says the JCM800 2203 ReIssue weighs 41 lbs (mines an older 2203 though, so could be more or less).
That's a bit close to the stated limit of the stand's top tier, especially for prolonged use. Even worse IMO would be moving them on a regular basis as you get the stress of flexing the arms taking it off and putting it on the stand. Not that it's going to be moved daily; maybe once or twice a month.

I'm not sure how much they vary but my '88 Jubilee 2555 weighs 47lbs, while the '78 JMP 2203 my bro used to own was 42lbs. Maybe the Jubilee weighs more due to the multi-primary power transformer? The JMP power transformer only had a single primary for 120V.

Not sure what year mine is. I know it's a reissue, since it has the fx loop, but can't recall the exact year. Feels near 50 lbs, though, so definitely in the 40+ lb range.

Either way, I'm leaning more towards the industrial-style shelf, as I'll also have room for my Fender head (which is buried in a closet at the moment), plus a 4-space rack, and my M13 and other pedals when not in use.
And the MicroCube.

The rack stuff and X15 board are on the other side of the room, with their own floor space and storage solution.

Went with the industrial solution:

Snap-together construction (rivets in locking slots) for the ultimate in unreliability and drama

It's made so you can double-stack them, but the only way to get one to stack on top of the other is if the rivets of one bracer are in one slot of each leg. Maybe if I lived in a warehouse, but ain't no way I'm testing that in a double-wide

On the bright side, I ended up with a spare shelf identical to this one. Now I just gotta figure out where to put it and what to do with it

Re: Stands for amp heads?

Stack em up
Shoot a drywall.screw and washer through the back legs into the wall

Should sturdy right up
