Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

I was actually considering putting a bid in for that, but then I remembered I can't afford it, I have a wife, and I don't play guitar well enough to do it justice.

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

Now there is an interesting sale. That would have to be one of the most iconic strats of all time. Be keen to see what it goes for.......as well as the #1 serial number '54

Idk, you sure sound like you can play good. What I do, every time she sends you to the store, when it asks if you want cash, say yes. 10 here, 20 there.

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

everything goes on a card for points then i pay it off every month so theres no interest. seems im usually the one passing out the cash now that i think about it lol

i was surprised the black strat was only expected to fetch that much as well but id venture itll get more than that

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

I just reread the article, $100,000 to $150,000?!! I’d have thought it would be half a million.

I think the prices are a bit low myself.

Also up for sale in The David Gilmour Guitar Collection in London this summer are the 12-string on which he wrote Wish You Were Here, his white 1954 Stratocaster - serial number #0001!

This is what I would be bidding on. Sadly it will probably go for more than I bought my house for.

I wonder if I can convince my financial advisor or 401k administrator that this is “an investment”? :scratchch

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

He's selling the iconic red strat that he used after the black strat too.

There's also his main studio acoustic, a Martin D35, that's got an estimate of $10,000-$20,000.

You gotta wonder what he's going to have left to play!

Accordingly DavidGilmour.com he has 100 guitars in his collection (faq from 2002).

He's also selling his Goldtop that he played on Another Brick In The Wall.

He's selling 120.

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

Smart dude. He has his replicas and others to play still, and he gets to profit off the instruments he made legendary while helping charity. That's a win.

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

the money will go to his charity. i read hes keeping 20 or so guitars, including his '55 esquire.

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

I wonder how much he actually plays now, anyway. I am guessing at this stage of his life, he isn't as attached to these things. He realizes they mean much more to other people than they do to him.

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

i think he still plays a fair amount. even if its just for his own enjoyment, like strumming an acoustic in the field while having a picnic

Re: Start saving now - Gilmour black strat

Clapton did the same thing awhile back. I'm sure he still plays as much as he ever did, but at some point stuff just looks like stuff, and if you're David Gilmour, any old Strat will probably do the trick.
