IMG_1409.jpgIMG_1413.jpgIMG_1414.jpg Final bits of clear were put on today. Now to let it sit for a month to make sure it properly cures before doing the final wet sanding/buffing out. Still no word on where the heck my neck is at. I was hoping that it would show today but no such luck. I know its delayed due to the holidays but Im praying it shows tomorrow.

I like the rig you set up for spraying
I recently bought these plates from ebay seller mrwmlarson for a few special projects.
Prices are very reasonable at $16 a pop

The project is looking great, you've got to be happy with it. The waiting is the hardest part, hehe.

When you have to drill the holes for the pickguard screws (and any other holes you may need to drill into the fresh finish), get some masking tape and stick it to your clothing, then use it in the areas you want to locate the holes. (Putting the tape on your clothing gets fibres on the tape's adhesive, making it less sticky, to avoid removing finish when removing the tape, which should be done by pulling the tape back on itself, not upwards at 90 degrees to the surface). You can buy 'low tack' tape, but the clothing method works fine ... experiment and see for yourself).

Mark the hole locations on the tape with a soft pencil, and try not press too hard. It doesn't matter so much on pickguard screw holes as they will be covered, but it's good to get into good work habits.

Btw, nitro can be touched up using nail polish, which is mostly nitro.

Looks great! How do you like the neck? How much extra was the neck after the fret-levelling, etc?

I like the neck. They did a really good job leveling and dressing it. I got it off ceghardtails1 off ebay for 130 with free shipping. (that was with the fret dressing etc.)

That neck is beautiful!!

Congrats mate!

Re: starting a new build: Pine body telecaster with a curly maple top

thanks hey where did you get your pickguard?

All that bling, including the engraved bridge and hardware is made by El Dorado Straps.
Bill even engraved some switch tips for some Fender Tele S-1 switches I have.

I bought the guitar ( CIJ 52 RI ) just for the bling and was going to move her on,
but she is probably the best playing Tele I've owned and I've decided to keep her.

The El Dorado stuff will however end up on an American Black Walnut Tele project
I'm working on. Two piece body, walnut neck with Ebony board and skunk stripe.
Will probably dye the guard black or just buy another and keep this one on the 52.

I've also got a couple of necks from ceghardtails1, a Tele V shape and a Strat with compound
radius Ebony board. His fret work is really nice and he ships to Australia at good rates.
I'm sure you're going to enjoy this build VERY much indeed.

Cheers, Will:friday:

Re: starting a new build: Pine body telecaster with a curly maple top

THanks will. its always nice to hear from people who have experience with ceghardtails. They were super friendly and the fret work really is superb. I imagine this to play much better than my first build which was made in memory of my mother but out of squier body and neck.

Really digging the grain on that pine! Maybe I should see if I can find a pine veneer for a future build?

Plenty of nice pine bodies on Ebay and not expensive at all.
Less than $100 from what I've seen.

Though not as nice as Loversmoon's for that money.

hey guys check out axetech111 on ebay. thats where I got mine and it was under a hundred bucks. he has various tops on pine bodies. at the moment he has nothing listed but he usually throws a body or two up every week or so. You may be able to contact him directly and get what your after as well. The most expensive I have seen his body go for was just over a hundred bucks but it had a bookmatched top.

IMG_1457.jpgIMG_1461.jpgIMG_1463.jpgIMG_1464.jpg I did a quick mock up today just to see how it may look. I have yet to do final wet sand/buffing and tru oil the neck. But now Im thinking that neck might look too light with that body...what you guys think? amber dye the neck then tru oil or leave it that light?
