Steely Dan's 'Josie'

Re: Steely Dan's 'Josie'

Man that is fantastic. One of the coolest ditties I have heard. That tone and phrasing don't belong on this song ( meaning I never would have heard it in my head that way), but you make it work beautifully.

Cool stuff....I agree with Kevlar that the phrasing is very unique. It took me a second to "get it". You make it work nicely though..

sweet cut , kirk ... i loved the tone and slide work ... you nailed those changes gracefully .. i'd love to hear you play the melody before launching into the solo phrases .. would even be (dare i say it) radio-worthy ...

any tips on how you constructed your phrases? were you thinking about scales? or chords? or something else?

thanks for the backing track - i want to have a go at this when i get back from my business trip to el paso / las cruces ...

cheers

I never had any luck with scales/modes ... I wouldn't know where to begin really, but chords are a different matter. I spent years developing a way of seeing chords for what they really are: entities that occupy the whole fretboard ... now I just connect the dots as they come and go.

Thanks for the nice feedback guys.

Far out... I agree with Kev and Butch as well. That's definitely not a way I would have heard to play that in my head in a million years. Very unique and inspiring. Great job man!!
