Steinberger GR4 Or Gretsch Duo Jet

In the past I've both guitars not at the same time and right
now I have a Fender Telecaster. Those are the two that I like
and the Steinberger is a favorite of mine. Back in the early 90's
my wife bought me a GR4 at a local music store and I wish that
I still had that guitar. Now with the Gretsch it was a 6128TBEE
Duo Jet that played great. So those are the ones that I like and
I play thru a reissue Fender 59 Bassman LTD. Now does anyone
here play a Steinberger GR4 or a Gretsch 6128TBEE Duo Jet.
What do you like about those guitars and what don't you like
about them. I am keeping my Telecaster.

Re: Steinberger GR4 Or Gretsch Duo Jet

Um, they are pretty different, but I'd take the Steinberger.

Re: Steinberger GR4 Or Gretsch Duo Jet

I'd take the gretsch because I love the jangle and the pick ups.

i also love the styling.

Re: Steinberger GR4 Or Gretsch Duo Jet

The Duo Jet is an awesome guitar and much more versatile than the typical jangle that you first think of being associated with it.

Re: Steinberger GR4 Or Gretsch Duo Jet

Which exact model of Fender Telecaster do you have? I think that I would just install a TV Jones Filter'Tron style pickup in the Telecaster.

Re: Steinberger GR4 Or Gretsch Duo Jet

I'd get the gretsch, though a tron might give it a different vibe, it's still a tele!

The guitar that I have is a 2009 Fender American
Standard Telecaster. Its a 3 Tone Sunburst with
an Alder body and a Maple Neck.

Re: Steinberger GR4 Or Gretsch Duo Jet

I have a gr4.It's out of commision for some years now, since it desperately needs a fret change, and for some reason i don't know,I keep postponing it.It has the custom/59 with a5 in bridge,a hotrails in neck and I changed the middle for an '82 fender single.Black color body, white pickups.
It's the maple body, not the gibson reissue with mahogany.
I can say one thing only. No,it's not the woodier sounding guitar, but it is extremely good sounding balanced and versatile. It can go through hell and come back like nothing happened, and you will NEVER have to adjust trussrod(in fact it doesn't have one,no need for that).
It is by far one of the best playing necks I ever had the pleasure of playing, you had one,so you know the deal. For those who don't,imagine a musicman non shreder model neck,a little more than gibson radius, not thin, kind of medium to chubby with a U profile that fills your palm,25.5" scale,24 frets. No strange only mid frequencies here like some Parkers of old days, but i just don't like custom custom hence,custom59.Blah,blah,blah.
3 words:Unbreakable,versatile,oneheckofaneck.
Get one again :D Usually used ones go for less than 600 dollars.
Yeah the duojet is good too.

JHN I found that my GR4 sounded real good thru a reissue
Twin Reverb. I used the Humbucker and the middle pickup
together with a little Reverb. I do like the Duo Jet yet the
Steinberger I enjoy much more. It seems that the Steinberger
is not the (In) guitar here is what a friend told me for the style
of music we play it doesn't fit the image. I didn't know that
you had to please the other members of the band that I played
in. If you don't play a Fender or a Gibson in there mind then it's
not right. Since I have a Telecaster to me the Steinberger would
be an excellent guitar to go with and I like the fact that I don't
have to cut the strings that makes it easy to change them:cool2:
