Steve Jones (Sex Pistols)

Re: Steve Jones (Sex Pistols)

I'm not saying they had a huge effect, I'm saying that their huge effect wasn't that great of a contribution to punk, other than to its fashion and the snotty, rebel-without-a-cause attitude.

...and if you honestly believe that to be the case then you've missed the point entirely or just weren't paying attention.

Bollocks is as important for what it was as much as what it was not.

It's easy to write them off for the things that you've duly noted. But in the grand scheme it's significantly larger than just those.

Re: Steve Jones (Sex Pistols)

All righty then, as Frankly would say.....

Thank you.

Even though we didn't formally commit the deal to writing, I would like to take this opportunity to announce that Wattage is Frank Lee's first (and only) authorized dealer/reseller of Thank You. I figured before this living illustration of the generation gap got any sillier I could bring this thread back to serious business.

Other franchises are available. PM me for details.

And Thank You.

Sorry, I should probably correctmy spelling. I'm not saying they didn't have a huge impact, they did. I just think they were a crappy band with HORRIBLE musicianship, even for punk, and poorly written lyrics.

One thing about the Pistols that makes me happy is they only had one album!!

Anyway, I'm done with the Pistols, good luck Krall on your search for his equipment list/set up.

Whoohoo!!!

You know when I filled out the paperwork I wasn't sure I would be approved. I took a chance using it but I figured at least I was using it properly:deal:

.

Most punk has horrible musicianship, thats kinda the point, and to be honest the Pistols is probably as good as/better than most of them, the ramones were far more repetative, and i find the exploited/the damned alot more boring to listen to. Dead Kens are probably better musicianshipwise but i think the pistols still did better for the raw attitude to thier sound. As for poorly written lyrics i must be listening to a different sex pistols to you, for 'punk' lyrics i think Rotten was the best, i think Joe Strummer was God on earth....but i think Rottens lyrics even top his. I think Bodies is just the perfect snarling, aggressive and offensive punk song.

EVery other post i make today seems to be supporting the pistols! I dunno what i bother, you either get it or you don't i guess. 'Enjoy or Die'

And dude if that is your band, i think accusing others on musicianship is kinda hypocrtical...

Re: Steve Jones (Sex Pistols)

I'd say if it's a Twin, without master volume...then to get such a broken up sound, he'd be playing pretty loud. Which I'm sure he would have been. But surely a little dirtbox, always on, over by the cab.

Hope he e-mails krall back. Curious now.. D'ya think Fender_Punk is into Crass?

Re: Steve Jones (Sex Pistols)

It is the dude's band, linked from profile.

He's about to go stratospheric with 'SelfExtermination', a stunning number. Record company bidding war imminent! And the sex pistols are bad musicians and poor lyrics!

Well worth the time, check it out, and be sure to listen to SelfExtermination... http://www.myspace.com/scumarmy

;-)

Re: Steve Jones (Sex Pistols)

I'm not saying I'm any Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan, or even an East bay Ray (though I do pull off some Kennedys quite well). I wrote and recorded those songs for a course at my school called Media Studies. I did all the drums, bass, guitar, lyrics, and vocals myself, all in the confines of my bedroom. I recorded one instrument at a time and layered them all. I'd like to see the Sex Pistols do all that on a 1.43 GHz Mac Mini with a 16 channel mixer, a set of drums, a borrowed bass, 2 guitars, 2 mics and Garage Band software.

As for record companies, not really interested in any major labels and I'm pretty damn sure they arren't interested in me!

You can love the Sex Pistols all you want, but accept the fact that not everyone will. As for who I think are the greatest punk bands:
-Dead Kennedys
-The Clash
-NOFX
-Bad Religion
-Rancid
-Anti-Flag
-Bad Brains
-The Germs
-Forgotten Rebels
-Misfits

As well as a few much smaller bands (Hold Up Your End, Fifty Stars Anger, Clusterbombs, all on myspace). The Pistols made their impact, they had their snotty attitude, etc. but they seem like a bad prototype for a punk band, and the ones I've listed I think all tooled the Sex Pistols in every aspect of being a band. But this is all my opinion.

Nah, I'm not a fan of them either.

....if there's anything less punk than myspace then I don't know what it is.

Maybe the mall?

Re: Steve Jones (Sex Pistols)

I'm sorry dude but if you think that you're music is better than anything the SP have done you are horribly, horribly wrong.

I agree. But it is a good vehicle for small, label-less bands to get their music out. It sucks, but it has it's uses for bands.

As for saying my music is better than SP, I never said that, I sid I'd like to see them try to do all their recording an instrument at a time, using basic home recording gear and still pull off a good quality album (based on sound).

You guys can argue with me day and night, I still wont like the Sex Pistols. Get over it.

Lots of people do it, it's not impossible.

Re: Steve Jones (Sex Pistols)

I heard a great quote today and I think it was John McEnroe though it may have been Patrick.

"Take care of your side of the net before you start trying to smack them down on the other."

You know what sucks? Anybody that responded here would be nothing more than fully supportive of Fender Punk's attempts at recording in a different situation, oh well.

And Fender no one here cares if you like the Pistols or not - no one here wants you acting like a freaking TOOL!!!!

You wouldn't have the name "Fender_Punk" if it wasn't for the Pistols.
