Sticky guitars due to sweat: Any tricks?

Re: Sticky guitars due to sweat: Any tricks?

Tung oil, shellac, and nitro... great finishes for sure. The thing is that I don't sweat that much so I really started getting upset with the stickiness of this McCarty of mine after using it in gigs and rehearsals... Heritage 555 is the backup guitar and has the nitro finish. I am way comfier with it after say half an hour into the gig you know.

Maybe I should use the accessories!

Get someone to put a satin finish on it?
Or maybe change your diet. More Omega-3's.

Ok, I think I've seen those before. I use a forearm-sized black sweatband, or just a long sleeve shirt. But the guitar is trashed after the gig anyway...it needs new strings, and some sterilization.
I used to do the sweatband thing but they all leave a nasty rash behind after I'm done. So far, so good with the sleeves

I might try the sleeves. I too get itchy wrist with the sweatbands.

Good suggestion. Thanks!

Today, I played for like 2 to 3 hours. I started with that sticky McCarty but then switched to the Heritage. Nitro is soo much better... It feels like a real instrument you know...

I have used baby powder on my fretting hand for years then found out Reb Beach does the same thing. Works wonders, kills the stickies, and makes the neck super fast.
Yeah, but is it really worth putting asbestos on your hands to deal with the sweat?

...from someone who also has big problems dealing with sweaty hands when it's hot.

Baby powder does not contain asbestos.
