I still haven't yet found a solution I'm happy with.
I am, in all honesty, just thinking about making my Fender frontman 15G combo into a head only and building two cabs, 1 which is 2x12 and one which is 1 x15 this way I can use the head for both Bass and guitar, there shouldn't be a problem with that.
The strange thing is the Frontman sounds great with a bass plugged into it!! weird... but I think a decent speaker will open it up more.
Now I have had the thought of building an amp.....
The PM10 I am fixing has a 100W chip in the power amp section. I assume it runs off 120V (IIRC) and I was thinking about using a similar circuit to the monitor from the power amp stage and building a decent pre amp stage.
However I would not want a Huge ass big ball like transformer, can't be doing with that crap, so I would want a blocky style one, saves on a little room too....
Bass amps aren't cheap to buy either!!!
