Stinkin' Floyd......help

Is the only way to tighten one up by adding springs?? I've got an EVH music man and the floyd just barely comes off the body and it vibrates and is driving me nuts. It has two springs on it now. Maybe the current one's are stretched out a little?? Any help is appreciated.

On my peavey wolfgang EVH, undo the back and there is 2 screws opposite the floyd block, tighten them but dont go too far so it starts boring thru wood.
If this doesnt fix it, you will need a new spring.
After i got mine with 9-46's, i added a spring when i put in 10-46's then another when i put in my 10-52's.

Cool, thanks. I do play 10's so I should probably just add a spring first to see if that does it, then I'll check the screws.

Kevin...My one strat uses .010s and my floyd has 3 springs and my bridge floats off the body about 1/8" or there abouts...Remember this...Easy...

Tightening the claw screws pulls the back of the bridge "closer" to the body..
Loosening the claw screws pushes the back of the bridge "further" from the body....

Adding a spring without adjusting the claw will pull the bridge close to the body again...

Removing a spring(If you have 3 or more)will move the bridge up and away from the body...

Getting the bridge set where you want it is a mix and balance between springs,claw tension,and string gauge..

Generally, it's a good idea to use three springs with 10 gauge strings. Springs do wear out eventually, so you may want to buy three new ones and see if that fixes your problem.

I use two with tens, and mine pulls alot, no floating.
Here is a pic.
Use the springs that has the most tension, this gives the smoothest trem-action.
Both my Kramer and Wolf plus my strat are setup this way.

Yup hehe it is...always open in the back....hehe I always remove that annoying piece of plastic.

Just block the backwards motion, and tighten the springs until the trem is flush, that gives way more stability and you can still use the trem.

Block the backwards motion? How do I do that?

I think I have just blocked the forward motion, the peice of wood is on the bridge side of the cavity... I can still pull up on the strings, not that I do....

Hey guys, got two new springs and that did it!! Now, how do you raise the action on the floyd?? The strings are buzzing just slightly and I want to raise it just a tad. It looks to me like the posts have a hex head.....do those screw out a little?? Or are they glued in. Thanks for any help.

Yep those adjust the height, don't do it with tension on the bar, or it will chew up the screws.
Depress it and adjust the barheight then, should do the trick.

I like floating Floyds, but with 3 springs. As long as the baseplate is flush with the body, the intonation is set perfectly, and the fine tuners are in the middle of their travel, the guitar should stay in tune perfectly.

You glue in a piece of wood on the neck side of the tremolo cavity to block the trem block. I would use a very hard wood for this.
