Re: Stopped by a pawn shop today and something pointy followed me home
Regarding the neck plate serials, they stopped indicating year of manufacture in 1997, when the serial number format increased from 6 numbers to 7. After that, they would keep using "98" to indicate Japanese-manufacture until the factory closed and all Japan manufacture was stopped.
Most of the X-series from that time were made in Indonesia, but there were still some made in Japan.
The bridge can be replaced by an OFR easily, though you may want to keep the original pivot posts as they're smaller than OFR posts, and replacing them will require filling and redrilling the body near the slot for the block, which can easily end in tragedy.
IIRC those came with HZ3s, and are PAF-voiced with a regular-thickness ceramic magnet. IMO they sound great with the EMG Afterburner/Turbocharger booster thingy set at about 3 or 4. Very nice "hot PAF" tone that way. However, without the AB/TC circuit, they're actually very bland and under-powered.
