Strange output problem with Lil' 59er ?

I recently noticed the output of my Lil' 59er (bridge) was lower that my APS's?
I raised it up a bit, No difference. Next I thought it was a cold solder joint. So I opened it up and re soldered. Still the same? It sounded like it was coil split, But it was still humcanceling. So I opened it up again and metered it. It was 4.72k. Now Green wire it to the pot GRN. Black to the switch, red & white soldered and tapped off. (I think I know how to Install a PuP by now:laugh2: )
So I cut the red & white wires and the meter jumped to 8.64k ? WTF. So I left both wires appart and put it back together. Still Low output and Still Humcancelling?? Only thing I can thick of is the PuP has some kinda weird internal short? Anybody have a clue? It's worked fine in this guitar since 94'

That is weird. That thing should measure between 11k and 12k. Sounds like an internal problem to me. I had a JB with a dead coil that still humcancelled even with the dead coil. I've got a 90's Little 59 too and love it. I hope this doesn't happen to mine.

If the meter reads 8.64 with red and white disconnected from each other, volume up, that pickup only selected, you have something shorting across hot and ground. Another pickup possibly... but you would be able to hear the other pickup in that case...

Looks like the verdict is in...A DEAD COIL:yell: I just removed the PuP. With the red &white connected it meters at 12.07 take the red&white off...0.00 on the meter. And I just sold my JB jr. this week!:blackeye:

Wait, with the read and white connected, it SHOULD measure that (+ or - a few points). I can't remember if it's black/red green/white are the individual coil start/stops but check those combos and black/white green/red to see what they measure. You should get both coils measuring half the total each. Red/white are disconnected.

The tap test always works too with red/white connected too. Should be easy to hear if one coil is truly dead.

This sucks if it's really dead.

Nope. Because the red and white are from two separate coils. Measuring from red to white will be zero because the signal is going nowhere.

With the red and white together, both coils are connected in full humbucking mode. Signal goes in the black out the white in to the red out the green to ground. Measuring on the black and green with red and white connected yields what you saw, 12k. Separate the red and white and measure on the black and green and you will get zero. There's nothing connecting them together.
