Strat hardtail on a tele

Re: Strat hardtail on a tele

well when i messured the location of the Humbucker from the 21st fret on my tele/strat bastard thing with a Gotoh Tele Bridge with a Humbucker slot... and did the same on my American Standard Strat that i love, there is a difference of 3/16th's of an inch. and that is enough of a space in that area to cut back on the low end tone... in that area of the strings a small amount like that makes a difference..

But you're still comparing Strat bridge placement to Tele. Did you measure from the 21st fret on the American Standard? I'm just curious because looking at that Tele bucker bridge and how the body would be routed, on the same guitar, the position of the humbucker looks like it would be the same whether that bridge is used or a Strat hardtail is used. I think the difference in the low end may be a characteristic of the bridge itself. Maybe?

Re: Strat hardtail on a tele

I have a 92 mim Tele with a poplar body. I did a similar thing:

A Dremel is all I needed to mod the bridge. I used a sharp chisel and a hammer to "route" the body. I was 16 at the time... :P

Welp, Ive come to the solution I need to get a new amp before I decided anything Ive been watching some videos of the Valvetronix on youtube and I like the tone alot. I ll be picking up the 15 watt version hopefully late next week.

Yes i measured both axes from the 21st fret's crown... the can measure from the nut as well... both tele and strat are the same scale so you can tell by messuring from the nut or pick a fret to use as a starting point...

i'm really picky about where i mount my bridge humbuckers on a guitar... Some pickguard company's mount the humbucker in the bridge postion to far towards the bridge... like a few from WD i had come with the humbucker slot too far back for me... they are roughly where the Gotoh tele bridge mounts it's humbucker slot... The new Fender American Standard Fat Strat pickguards mount the humbuckers in a sweet spot.....

the difference in the amount i like to move my bridge PU in teles with humbuckers farther away from the saddles towards the neck is hard to see with a naked eye... 3/16ths is not a huge amount to the eye

basicly i would like the Humbucker Heigth Screw on the Low E string side to be in the same location as the Heith screw for a Single coil on a Fender Strats pickgaurd.... the low E string side of the angled bridge single coil slot's screw hole on their pickguards... take a long ruler and lay that on a stock fender strat and find the measurement of that screw from say the nut.... then try it for a Tele with Humbuckers that is using the standard Modern Gotoh bridge... it's not the same place...

Bridge Humbucker placement makes a huge difference in tone.. mids and Bass increase farther away from the saddles, towards the neck... and higher pitch tones closer to the saddles...

Ok, I gotcha, I think....LOL. You're right, 3/16" is not that much. I'm planning on using the Gotoh humbucker Tele bridge on the Thinline I want to build and slap the Brobucker in there. If it adds some twang in there, great. I've got 3 Strats so a Tele with the pickup a little closer to the saddles isn't a big deal.
