strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

Ok guys i need HELP!!! i need a good bridge humbucker for an ader body maple neck strat. one of my favorite sounding guitars i have now is a schecter c1 XXX mahogany body mahogany set neck with a JB in the bridge...it's perfect IMO. my other main guitar is a alder body maple neck tele with a tele hotrails in the bridge. now i want to get my strat to sound similar to one of those. i tried a duncan distortion it was too thin...invader was too muddy and harsh i guess you could say...hot rails was too harsh sounding not a warm full sound...it's nothing like the tele hotrails, since it's hotter at 16.9k vs. 14.8k. so.... what do i try next? i think the JB although i love it in mahogany will be too thin in an alder/maple strat...i'm thinking of the custom, the custom 5 or a dimarzio air zone (any others? brand doesn't matter i just want sound!!). the pickup does not have to do clean(i have other guitars for that), strictly a warm and full sounding high gain. i play mostly metal and punk through a peavey ultra plus...my typical amp settings are bass at about 8-10 mids about 3-4.5 and highs 8-10...i like a thick sound. i know a maple neck alder body strat isn't the guitar to get this sound but i love the guitar and there must be a pickup out there to find a sound similar to my schecter from it. thanks for any help and if you have any high gain clips of pickups i may like please post them!!

if all else fails i may order a full size rail humbucker version of the tele hotrails but if i can find an off the shelf pickup i like and save cash i'm all for it!

How about an original parallel axis trembucker? The custom and C5 might be a good choice also. I am not exactly sure what will give you a similar sound as a JB in your schecter though. I am just shooting from the hip here.

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

I can let you know about the Original Trembucker in a week. Just remind me.

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

ok hold on

so if your schecter sounds perfect

then what, you want the strat to sound exactly like the schecter?

IMO if you have a perfect sounding guitar, theres no use for another one, except maybe as a backup

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

thanks guys, i'll look into the trembucker...

drew...you just answered your own question...a backup sort of. my two main guitars now are my schecter and my tele...although, i love this strat it just feels right to me but i can't find the right sound. i'd like to make it a backup to my two other guitars i mentioned but i can't get it in the same ballpark even with what i have tried so far...thus why i ask for help :) it doesn't have to sound 100% the same (it never could) but it needs a similar usable sound for me...so if i decide to use it at a rehersal or a gig on a song i wrote with my tele or schecter it won't sound so far off that i hate the sound...

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

In the SD world I think the above recommendations are solid - C5 or PATB-1 (coincidentally, I'm selling a PATB-1).

DiMarzio Norton, Air Zone, or Double Whammy would be good choices, as might a Rio Grande BBQ Bucker.

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

I personally find the C5 kind of ice-picky in Fender style guitars. I'd go with the suggestions of something in the PATB line (Blues would be my choice), or the Custom Custom.

Also, you might want to try a JB in it with 250k pots. It won't sound like it does in your Schecter, but it'll probably sound cool. :burnout:

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

i was just looking at some specs of a few duncans...anyone ever try a dimebucker in an alder strat? after looking at the specs, the dime and the custom 5 both have similar EQ's (dime 6/5/8 custom 5 6/3/8) but the dime is wound hotter like a jb in the 16K range. on paper it seems like it would work but i'd like to hear from anyone that tried one if possible. thanks again everyone!

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

I've tried a bunch of pickups in HSS strats, although all of mine are alder/rosewood.
I like the C-5, CC, and JB the best. If I were you, with YOUR guitar, I'd buy a tremspaced Custom Custom and whatever 2 singles you like. In HSS guitars, I like Fat 50's, and if I wanted beefier singles, I'd probably get cool rails.

For alder/rosewood, I like the trem C-5 or JB. For ash or alder/maple, I'd go CC.
Keep in mind, if you buy a trem CC and don't like it, which is unlikely, you can easily exchange it for a C-5, whether you just change the magnet or return it to the seller.

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

gearjonser...thanks fo the info!! the guitar now has 3 hotrails in it...i may actually make it a double fat H/H guitar and ditch the singles or just ditch the middle single and use one hum one single in the neck...not sure yet but i still need to find the right bridge full size hum. which would you say had a fatter sound the custom custom or the custom 5? thanks again.

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

The CC will usually sound fatter than the C5, due to the big bump in the lower mids and the pulled back highs. The C5 will have a much bigger, tighter bass response, though.

Re: strat humbucker...i can't find the right one...

thanks guys, i think i'll try the CC in it!
