Strat tuner hole sizes?

Re: Strat tuner hole sizes?

Those are cheap economy box tuners. They have an 8mm hole. Klusons will fit without a conversion bushing. The bushing is needed for 10mm holes used for your modern sealed gear tuners.

Re: Strat tuner hole sizes?

is it hard to find locking tuners to fit an 8mm hole?

Or are Kluson's my only real option in terms of an upgrade?

Thanks

Re: Strat tuner hole sizes?

Just a little warning!...Back when I was young and just getting started in the hobby, I decided to install modern tuners on a perfectly nice older neck. So I went to the hardware store and came home with a 10mm drill bit to open up the 8mm holes with. The bit grabbed and gouged its way through the first hole and splintered right out the back of the head stock--man, I coulda thrown up...I eventually got it semi-straigtened out by a luthier, which is where I should have taken it in the first place. Since then, I have invested in a quality ream--the T-handle kind. Its cut is very smooth and precise. I just go a little from the front side, then a little from the back, alternating back and forth until I just sneak up on the perfect over-size. Maybe you already know the things about wood working that I didn't know and wouldn't do something as dumb as I did. Good luck bro'...I hope your project goes well...
