I just started using it, and now its loose and wiggles around in the little jole. Is it to small, or what?

Thanks

Re: Strat Wang bar problems

oh yeah, drop a little spirng in there, and screw your trem arm in, it provides enough resistance to keep it from wiggling.

Re: Strat Wang bar problems

Typical prob with Strat trem pieces. I got so fed up with mine that I took the silly thing off and blocked it. Plays better as a hard tail, anyway.....

Re: Strat Wang bar problems

I tried using a Bic "clicky pen" spring (the ones inside the pen) but the bar wouldn't even screw in. Any other sugestions.

cut the spring down

Re: Strat Wang bar problems

Damn i put a saddle screw spring in there and it got stuck. No way to get it out now. So i just pushed it further in with the whammy bar. aw well

Re: Strat Wang bar problems

I also have trouble with my whammy bar in my 2001 Amer Strat. Basically the bar is snug when it is pointing towards the floor. When I move it into playing position it is loose so that it wants to drop back to pointing at the floor. I tried a spring from a pen a little while ago. No luck with that. I might try some tephlon tape latter on.

This is not "tape" with an adhesive but it is actually a thin strip of tephlon ( I think a type of plastic) that is used on threaded pipes so create a tight seal. I suspose that this would work on the threads of my whammy bar so that it snugs up the bar so that it stays in the playing position.

Do the Deluxe strats have the Pop In whammy bar? How well does that bar work?

Re: Strat Wang bar problems

you need to use the correct spring - go to either a Fender dealer or a good luthier

Re: Strat Wang bar problems

wouldnt know i never use my trem arm at all it stays in my guitar case to NEVER BE USED. Your problem si one fo the reasons why never use it.

...AMEN!.... As far as the bar the teflon tape may work well, as it's similar to a nylon bushung that others use (on different vibratos), macsking tape will work, but it gums up bad ... a suitable spring can be found at some of the more complete hardware stores.

Re: Strat Wang bar problems

You could also try filling the hole with silicone, threading the arm in where you want it to stay most of the time, wipe off the stuff that squishes out, and let cure for a day or two (don't play it, or put it in the case; covered over on a work bench on it's back is fine). You can always unscrew it, but you'll have to repeat the process if you put it back in. Never done this my self, but I got it from a guy that tried it, he said it worked as well as anything else. Sounds reasonable, but like I said, never tried it myself. FWIW

Re: Strat Wang bar problems

OK I'm a little confused... I have three strats and none of them have springs in the bar handle? They are all vintage style tail pieces so is it the new style that has a spring? I have alwasy used teflon tape to "tighten" the handle so it stays where I want it. It works for me! but a spring under the handle.... never heard of that before.
