Strat with Buckers

Hello, I just joined the club. I've been playing since the early 70's :smack: Old, Huh? Anyway I am about to put a set of 59's in an American Strat Texas Special. Why you ask? I just want to. I have my Duncans and am waiting on the pick guard. Has anyone tried this? If so how did it sound. I mostly play blues rock but am starting to get into heavier stuff, you know, show tunes. Seriosly, I have started to listen to some metal that I like and want to expand my musical horizons. Ya think this guitar config. will do it?

Metal and humbuckers go together hand in hand . . . I'm sure that you'll enjoy playing the '59s with your strat. I can personally vouch for the cleans that you'll get from your neck pickup (they're pretty sweet) and I've heard a lot of good about the bridge too. Hope you got the nickel covered 'buckers, because I think that those look awesome in a strat style guitar . . .

Thanks. I got the open coil ones but I'm putting them in a tortoise shell pick guard. I hope it looks good. As long as the tone is there I'll be happy.

I own many many many Strats with humbuckers... at least 9 of my guitars are strats with humbuckers..... Some are cheap Mexican made Fender strats.. and some are American standards or Warmoths and other kit guitar parts... My 18 year old American Standard has a JB in the bridge and it is one of my favourite guitars.... It is really beat up and the inca silver finnish has turned greenish.... looks kind of heavy!!!! Another strat i have has a Duncan Custom- love that PU..... My Warmoth has Dimarzios right now but i bought a set of JB/Jazz to put in it.....

I have a tele parts guitar with a set of Duncan 59's..... Like the sound but my set seems to be noisey! I have had techs look at my wiring and sheilding and they all say they must be a noisey set.... Duncan's customer service wants me to send them to the Canadian dist for testing but i reallly can't help but think that is a lot of trouble and shipping expenses i guess would be on me....... Even more so i'm sick and tired of messing with that guitar and taking it apart all the time......

My strat started off with buckers, but listening to some Malmsteen and various other guys with thick sounding singles made me switch....that said just don't expect an LP sound, but you will definitely be able to get some heavy tones from the 59's.

My strat had a 59 neck RWRP, and a PG+ bridge. I could get some chunk from them. If you are wiring up a 5 way switch with splitting I'd recommend the modified wiring so as to buck the hum on combos of singles.

I love my 59 neck in my Strat, you might want a more aggressive-sounding bridge pickup depending on what your definition of 'metal' is tho.

Of course Iron Maiden's first CD was all single-coiled strats so it's more about what sounds good to you...rock on dude.

I'm definitely going to keep the pick guard on it now, together. In case I need to switch it. I have Gold Lace Sensors in it now, and for strat tone they are amazing. I may get another strat, maybe a Mex. and put those pups in it. My Duncans are 2 wire so I got a 3 way switch to go in it. I didn't even think about that 'till after I got my pups. Thank you all for your input. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I love a 59 in the bridge of a Strat. It was my set up for a long time. I still like a SC in the neck though, but that is just a matter of preference.
