Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

Primarily neck, with bridge a very close second since I have a hot one in there (A5/10.2k/42 AWG) that's nice and meaty. Then bridge/neck (have Mega Switch).

I rarely use the #2 or #4 positions for solos, not enough punch.

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

80% neck and 20% bridge. I'm dropping the middle pickup on my latest project Strat too.

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

I mostly play my leads with some dirt on and I mostly play dirt with just the bridge single coil. The best guitar sound known to me.

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

i mostly use #4 and #2 for both chords and soloing ... since i started using the SD pickup booster set to about 6-10 DdB boost, these positions are plenty punchy and it preserves the clucky single note and chimey chordal quality ... i set it so that i get good volume at about 6-7 on the volume knob for comping, then roll it up to 10 for solos ... and on my EJ strat, these are the two hum canceling positions ... when we are REALLY going for it, especially with some grit, i will use the bridge for extra cut and guts ...

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

Middle\bridge position only. It has that vocal quality and response that I need.

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

No Strat here, but as an HS & HH owner, I use the neck pup when I want that round, vocal quality & the bridge pup when I want a sharp, stinging sound.

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

i like how my middle pickup has the sweetness of the neck pup and the cut of the bridge

its perfect

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

I have severe ADD when it comes to soloing on a strat. I love the bridge/middle position for blues with a slightly dirty tone. Clean I like either the neck or neck /middle.

My clean and dirty preferences are basically identical to these. My bridge/middle combination with the tone rolled back slightly gives me the best sustained OD tone. Neck alone and neck/mid yield the open sweetness.

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

Like the GLP poll, i don't own a strat, but have played many.

I can't stand the bridge pickup on a strat for leads AT ALL so it's neck 100%.

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

Nothing beats a strat's neck pickup for leads!

Re: Stratocaster Players: Which Position For Leads

I don't have a middle pickup so I only have neck and bridge options. It depends on what's going on, most clean solos I'll play in the neck position and dirty leads will usually be played out of my bridge position...I've been playing in the bridge position a lot lately...I'm using a hot rail in the neck and a JB in the bridge so it's not the same as the three singles a Strat comes with it :P

Explain why this wouldn't be better suited to The Guitar Shop.
