Stratocaster type guitars: average weight?

Re: Stratocaster type guitars: average weight?

I don't know about the Alder being okay at heavier weights, so I'll let others with more knowledge chime in. I do know that my 10lb ash Strat is pretty dead sounding. It's to the point that I've considered getting a replacement ash body for the neck or just selling it outright.

I feel the same way about mine. It's over 9 lbs and just dead sounding. Looks great though: it's a Mary Kaye. Bought it from a dealer in Japan so I didn't get to try it first.

I guess that would explain why mine sings then? The dimensions of the Legacy are slightly smaller than a Strat but the overall weight would still count for something. It's only 7lbs

Well...the confirmation I'm getting from this poll is that the lighter the better, but that alder can be a bit heavy and still sound great whereas ash starts to sound a little stiff and dead if it gets to heavy. Actually, that's been my feeling for quite some time. But I wanted to see what you guy's experience has been.

57 RI (alder body, maple fretboard): 8#
This my brightest strat.

Strat Plus with WD neck (ash body, ebony fretboard): 9#
This one is in between my 3 strats as far as brightness.
It has more sustain than the other two.

MIA Strat (alder body, rosewood fretboard): 7.5#
This one is a hardtail. This one has the darkest sound out of the three.

I love all 3 and plan on keeping them. All three have that classic strat sound.
