Stratocaster vs Telecaster, SG vs Les Paul

Re: Stratocaster vs Telecaster, SG vs Les Paul

1. I'll take a Stratocaster, most versatile guitar ever made. I dropped a mini humbucker in mine and now i have pretty much any sound you'd want covered.

2. I would take a Les Paul over an SG. Personally, i don't think there is much difference in sound. SG's have amazing high fret access, but for me they are really uncomfortable to play.

3. I don't have much of an opinion here. I think I'd rather have a PRS, they seem to mix features of a strat with those of a paul.

I had the choice of those guitars and I chose a strat, i've replaced the bridge SC with a HB, and now i've got a real practical working mans guitar.

1) Stratocaster or Telecaster...... Why ???
Definitely strat. It's got those soft glassy neck tones, and position 2 bell tones. And its more versatile IMO.

2) SG or Les Paul........... Why ???
Les Paul, because i think u'll get more bottom end and sustain. Plus you get that bright biting tone from the top strings. It's just "more guitar" to yank the tones from, in my opinion.

3) Les Paul or PRS, both humbucker guitars............ Why ?????
Probably PRS (even though i don't own one yet). But i keep hearing Santana and Al Di Meola play them, and they are so sweet sounding.
The only thing preventing me from getting one is the price.

Blasphemy! And obviously sight-impaired.

It makes sense really, I don't like the looks of *any* of Batman's gadgets. It's only natural I wouldn't like his guitar either :laugh2:

1.) Telecaster- because they rule.

2.) Les Paul- because they rule.

3.) Les Paul- because they rule.

Re: Stratocaster vs Telecaster, SG vs Les Paul

none of these questions i really feel that strongly about either way. now if it was "Explorer vs. Flying V," my head might explode from pondering it

anyhow-

1. strat- i really have next to no experience with teles, but i like all the modding options on strats
2. SG- tony iommi. only answer i need. haha
3. LP- PRSs kinda bore me. never played one i really loved, no one i like uses them, and the looks do nothing for me

funny, because thats the mass opinion of PRS guitars, but it was in no way Paul Reed Smith's goal in making guitars. he did want to make guitars that both long and short scale players could get along with, but the "mix of strat and Les Paul" idea is really an internet-cultivated rumor.

whatever paul says though... i have a strat, les paul, and prs, and the prs does land in the middle in many respects. deep and rich tone, but can be spanky like a strat. though my strat is decidely more les paul-esque now that i've put an A8 Virtual PAF Hot in the bridge....

Re: Stratocaster vs Telecaster, SG vs Les Paul

They all have their merit, I have several of each. I've always gravitated towards the feel of an SG and my "wife" is a '78 Standard. That said, the guitar that I almost always gravitate towards just to "play around" with is my main Telecaster.
