Looks like the Easter Bunny must have sat on his carrot.

He makes it seem as if only certain instruments can be used for metal. Certain instruments and silly fashion sense by the looks of it. I'm beginning to think the term 'metal' stands for 'closed-minded, self-centred and short-sighted attitudes held by insecure people who attempt to make themselves appear important by blustering and roaring about hate when in fact they have nothing constructive to offer to anyone beyond making a lot of noise (not necessarliy via music)'.

BTW, i'm impressed to know that we have the easter bunny as a forum member. Until now i'd always thought he was a mythical being.

^ HEY I resent that!
Now YOU make it seem like said close-minded individuals are the ones that define metal.

I'm too bored to get into a long-winded discussion so I'll be quick and simple.
They do not.

As for strats, I think we can all agree that, like 'em or not Iron Maiden are the definition of metal and for the longest time they've been playing with Strats, for the most part SSS too.

NO they haven't. Dave Murray's original Kossoff strat was SSS and he turned it into HSH for a "heavier sound". As far as I know none of Maiden's guitar players have ever used a single coil in the bridge position.

And Ritchie Blackmore never played metal!

Re: Stratocasters just don't do metal!

Man, if this isn't the king of all dick measuring contests, I don't know what is.

God I hate metal, specifically for their fan-base (ie ignorant d*uche-satchels that seem to be populating this thread).

Re: Stratocasters just don't do metal!

I've already blown the pants off this thread and nobody noticed, so I'm out! :D

PEACE yall!

Re: Stratocasters just don't do metal!

So, jthestretgdrte13 what are you doing on this "metal" thread? Nothing better to do?- ya better practice some metal riffs - it takes a lot more practice that you're used to

I like to see what people have to say about certain guitars and how they relate. I am not at all a strat fan: never owned one and wouldn't own one if it was free. But some of the idiocy in this thread is mind-blowing. Tone is a creation of the guitarist, not the guitar.

Re: Stratocasters just don't do metal!

We define metal... and you people call us ******bags...

We live, eat, breathe, and play metal on our NON-F NON-sss guitars.... and YOU people claim that we are closed minded.... whatever....

We "Understand" what true Metal is and what it stands for, because we ARE METAL.... and you guys still try to tell us what Metal is and how heavy so-and-so is with their s-s-s.... please spare us your ignorance.

Where is the last Metal song you wrote, thrashed and screamed with your bloodied pickhand huh? Go polish your guitar.

You guys just don't get it. And apprently never will....

It is worthless spending anymore time with this thread

Re: Stratocasters just don't do metal!

ie not Led Zep, or Deep Purple, or Yngwie, or Jimi Hendrix. If those guys are metal then I'm the King of England and I've come back from the dead to take over the world, and then begin taking over other planets in the first incarnation of the Glorious British Space Empire.

I laughed so hard it hurt when I read that... awesome...

I'd take away your man card but I see you've never been born with one LOL!

And no, Strats (true Strats with three single coils) cannot do metal.

And if it has something other than three low output single coil pickups, it AIN'T A STRAT.

Re: Stratocasters just don't do metal!

This thread is ridiculous. A strat can be modified to play anything. Same with a Les Paul.

Re: Stratocasters just don't do metal!

I'll be the first to declare my love for the Stratocaster, but I must say, a Les Paul by itself works for pretty much any gig. No mods needed. Maybe a Floyd Rose but then we're not just talking tone there.

Pretty much. People keep saying things like, "Well, if it's not three single coils, it's not a Strat." Well, take an S-S-S Strat, rout out the body and the pickguard, and put a humbucker in the bridge. What do you call it? A Strat with a humbucker in the bridge. Let's not get bogged down in semantics.

And then there are the people who insist that music isn't metal unless it's played by guys in horror movie masks on instruments that look like jewelry from Hot Topic and have nuclear reactors for pickups. This narrow definition of metal doesn't serve anybody; it just annoys people who are old enough to like music from before 1990.

Re: Stratocasters just don't do metal!

I think the problem with this thread is that people are ignoring the fact that metal is too broad a genre. You're covering all the way from the work of Maiden/Priest to modern bands...all of them use different kinds of equipment. Dave Murray doesn't play through a 6505/Mesa oversize cab set up, and the guys from Protest the Hero don't play through vintage Strats.

But that doesn't mean that it can't be done. It's not gonna sound like old school Maiden or the way Protest the Hero usually sounds....but it's not like if you grab a vintage Strat and plug it into a Bogner Uberschall Satan is going to come out from hell and split your spine. It just means you might not like the sound of it.

If it says Fender Stratocaster on the headstock, regardless of the mods, it's still a Fender Stratocaster.

Some people mention slipknot here as real metal. Last I checked one of them played a modified Fender Telecaster- as well as John 5.

The only guitars I'd say confidently metal couldnt be played on is a Gretcsh or Rickenbaker

Cliff Burton played a Rick, but that's not what you're talking about, is it?

Then, there's this. Not very metal, even in my estimation.
