Maple on electrics and Rosewood on acoustics especially on classicals.

I enjoy both but I prefer maple. A LOT! As long as the fret board has a more satiny finish on it(not the shiney gloss one) Im happy.

Re: Strats...Maple or Rosewood Fingerboard???

I voted for maple since two of my three Strats are Maple. I like the look, and I think mapleboards play faster since they're harder than rosewood. They seem to sound a touch "snappier", but it's very subtle.

That being said, I bought a slightly used MIA Deluxe with a rosewood neck, and it is the sweetest playing neck of the three. Go figure...

Its rosewodd all the way. Is warmer and brings an overall balance to the tone

Maple for funk, country, or anything you want really bright and "stratty". Rosewood for fatter bluesy stuff or rock. I've got a maple necked strat that can pretty much do anything, though. I like the feel of maple better than rosewood, in general. I think the harder wood and the finish make it nice and smooth on the neck.
