Strats with no 3/5 way switch

I got my 1st strat a few months ago and its great, the only problem is I keep hitting the switch while playing, I am all for getting new pickups (SD of course) and pickguard and rewiring, but I need to not have a switch there., I need a switch where the knobs are. I am a GUITARORON, so it has to be a simple install. I can live without the middle pickup and tone controls, I really only need 1 volume and 1 pickupswitch. Thanks for any suggestions!

How long have you been playing guitar? The strat switch location isn't terribly close to where you should be picking, I'd spend a year or so learning to control my right hand better before trying a mod.

+1 to this or sell the guitar and buy a Les Paul

With professional quality pickups, you would not need to bash the strings so violently in order to generate a decent signal.

It would be easier to make constructive suggestions if we knew what amplification and/or effect pedals are you currently using.

Strumming hand discipline 101.

1) Beg, borrow or steal Fender Telecaster with vintage style, stamped steel bridge/tailpiece.
2) Strum enthusiastically with relevant hand directly above pickup and fleshy edge of palm close to saddles (as if for muting).
3) Crack fingernail(s) on raised lip of Telecaster bridge/tailpiece.
4) Rapidly learn to regulate your hand movements.

Yep, modifying technique rather than incorporating bizarre control layouts usually is better - and much more cost efficient too.

This should do it. Yep. Problem solved.

I figure that the odds be fifty fifty.

Either you learn some self-control or you smash yo' fingers to a pulp and have to give up playing altogether. Either way, the musical community in general benefits. :D

Re: Strats with no 3/5 way switch

sorry folks, cant change my technique, old and set in my ways, gotta play in a recliner, I know it's not proper, but that's the way I do it......

I had that same problem when I first started playing Strats...very annoying and frustrating, especially since there were so many things that I loved about the Strat and I really wanted to be able to get around that problem and play it. It just took a little time and effort. I'm an old fart, and if this old dog can learn new tricks, then you young whippersnapper certainly can.

Re: Strats with no 3/5 way switch

I reckon there should be a key-tar category in Aceman's next annual guitar poll.

Re: Strats with no 3/5 way switch

The switch is in the way but not the volume knob? Bizarre.

Look for a Starr Switch.
