D'Addario 9's for me, thank you. I bend constantly, like there's no tomorrow. For my style, to get every nuance, I need complete and utter control from my strings without them fighting back. I'm doing deep bends and otherwise wrestling with my strings, like Jimmy Page and Peter Green in their prime. I don't just want to play guitar, I want to play like them, with wild bends and fast vibrato.
Everything being equal, thicker strings have more 'tone.' But...you can use magnets, pots, resistors, and amp settings to get where you want to be tonewise with light strings. Get the gauge your comfortable with and you can adjust the other variables.
