Stringe gauge question C Standard tuning/ floyd rose system

I decide to tune one of my guitars to C Standard, as i am getting into melodic death metal music territory. I will let the service man change the tuning because the guitar has floyd rose, and i don't want to mess with it. The guitar is LTD Horizon 1001 with emgs and korean floyd rose. I have this guitar right now in E Flat tuning, with 10-48 strings on, and i like the tension. I wonder what strings should i buy for Standard C. Should Ernie Balls 12-56 be enough to save the tension i have now? I am both, rhythm and lead player and guitar will ocaisonaly be droped into Drop B. Thanks for answers.

A decent guideline is that every half step you drop feels like going down a string gauge. But I only go as low as F, anything past that, I don't know.

No, every half step equals a half gauge. So 12s would more than compensate for the lost tension.

I once set up a guitar for a guy in C# and 11s. I have no idea how he played it, but he was happy.

I recently played a really sweet old Strat tuned down 1/2 a step. It played super easy, asked him if it had 11s. Turned out it was strung 12-56. I couldn’t believe it was that heavy, he shrugged and said, “It’s all in the way it’s setup.”

That was a very roundabout way of saying be sure you tweak everything once it’s tuned down.

For C, I’d go with 13s and enjoy better tuning stability.

12-58 would be about right for me at C-standard and would be more suited to drop on the 6th string,,,,,,provided you have one of those drop-tuna EVH things.

I'd probably recommend not ever dropping the big string since it's a floyd and when you drop even that one string it will slightly throw everything else off, and not just the other strings going slightly sharp but also the bridge will lay-back a sliver more, which brings all the strings a sliver closer to the pickups and also changes the intonation a sliver.

Lots of slivers add-up to a pain IMO with a double-locking floater.

To OP: I would go with 11-58 or something.

In C, you would drop to B flat - unless it's tritones you want. Sorry to be a PITA but you never know.

I think i am gonna go with 11-54 for Cis Standard, or 12-56 for C Standard, i don't know for sure which tuning will be yet, but definately one of those two. Thanks.

I use 10s on my 25.5 guitars and tune to Eb

The shorter scale get 11s

I've fantasized about setting one up at F-standard with a 9-44 set. Tiny strings at nice tension.

Even though it takes me an hour I love taking a Floyd guitar down that far. Screw drivers and strings and hex keys strewn all over the table with little piles of screws all grouped up. Then you fight the tuner and intonation for 5 minutes and when you're done the nice happy sounding guitar you had sounds mad as hell. Plug in, gain up, slide down into Sabbath's "Into the Void", hell yeah.

I'm running a .11-.49 NYXL set for my C# stuff now, I like it to still feel a little loose and easy playing. A .11-.52 set feels pretty close to normal and didn't need any truss rod work. Any bigger on the bottom than .52 and they just feel too fat, but that's just me. If you're doing lead work I think the .12-.56 will be just about right for C.

Now where the eff did I put the truss rod cover?

10-60 tuned to C standard for me.

I’d go 11-54 first, then gauge up to 12-56 if needed.

I will go with Daddario XL 11-52 for Cis standard, or 12-54 for C standard. I want to change from EB to Daddarios because i had lots of problems with EB, the lighter strings constantly getting rusted right from the fresh packs..
