Well, I went out to the Gotoh/Schaller dealer (which is also a Seymour Duncan dealer as well, I might add) and got this:

Not only were they compatible, but they fit the headstock even more snugly than the Ibby machine heads. They were nearly identical, but the Gotoh was a bit bigger and was nearly twice as heavy. Surprisingly, the stock Ibby screws were bigger and tighter than the ones Gotoh supplied. I may have overtightened things a bit, though...

Better safe than sorry. That set costed me nearly a month's worth of savings.

Its fine if people chime in and say they've never had a problem with backwards stringing. I don't doubt they're 100% right for their own situations. But I've seen the chewed up posts, the plating chipping off, etc. I've had a lot of guitars through my hands over the years. It's as literal as taking the strings off, and seeing the exact places where that string left its mark.

Those Gotohs are excellent tuners, and what would have come stock on a guitar like that if it were a Prestige series from Japan. Excellent choice.

Thanks! And they sure made the headstock a bit heavier, but I like that.
