Stuck in a rut over amp size...

I think a 30 to 50 watt 2 x 12 combo amp is MORE than most people need but probably appropriate since it'll cover alot of situations.

I've owned a few Marshall 4 x12 half stacks over the years...I own one now. Haven't plugged it in in at least a year! It's just to loud.

When I gigged regularly I almost always felt like I'd like to turn my amp up louder to get a little more overdriven tone, but even my 2x12 Pro Reverb combo amp was to loud for most, though not all, playing situations.

I teach in a high school and almost all of the guitar players there want, and often get, a stack or a half stack with a zillion plus watts. I always ask them when they will be playing their next stadium gig
:laugh2:

If you aren't regularily playing clubs, ask yourself why you need more than a 30 watt amp. Chances are even if you are playing clubs, a 30 watt combo amp should do you fine.

Re: Stuck in a rut over amp size...

A 412 has the same footprint as a horizontal 212. A 412 is easier to hear when you are on stage, when playing at the same volume as a 212. A 412 is easier to push than a 212, when you have casters. A 412 sounds bigger. A 412 looks cooler.. etc :D

Bigger=Better.

Unless you are playing a marshall mode four full-stack in a studio apartment.

Do your back a favor and avoid the 4x12 cab and 2x12 combo. My suggestion would be a head + 2x12 cab.
