Stuuuupid question time...can this be overlaid on an Epi headstock?

Re: Stuuuupid question time...can this be overlaid on an Epi headstock?

I read a post from another forum (can't remember which one) where a guy converted his Epiphone headstock to a Gibson headstock. The post was step by step and very detailed with photos.
So yes it can be done.
Maybe try a search on the subject.

Depending on the epi model, you may actually need to ADD wood onto the headstock, or cut the headstock a bit shorter then a standard gibson headstock.

I know the points need something behind them to support, and I could make something, but is the Epi headstock shaped differently? I have no idea. I actually don't like the idea of putting "Gibson" on it, but they don't make these with "Epiphone" on them. Just wondering. Don't even have the money to do it if it could be done, but in the future...

The Epi headstock & Gibson Headstock are not the same size. Could it be done... well yes but it would be noticeable to any player. Why??

You will have to add wood, and then plane down the thickness to accept the overlay.

Unless you have the skills to do it yourself, the cost to do it right would be more than the guitar was worth.

75 - this is the lamest thread i think i have come across. Why are you even considering it?

You can do it with some woodworking and refinishing. And in the end, you'll still have an Epiphone.

I would get a Japanese Epi made for the domestic market. They use the Gibson head shape (large variation), but say Epiphone. Plus they are killer guitars...same as Epi Elitists save for the shape of the head.

Sixty bucks to reduce the value of your Epi by approximately one hundered bucks? Ho, hum. :scratchch

Re: Stuuuupid question time...can this be overlaid on an Epi headstock?

Possible? Yes
Unnecessarily Expensive? Yes
A great way to get into real deep **** should you ever sell the instrument, even if you disclose the nature of the modification? Hell yes

Overall: Bad idea.

Re: Stuuuupid question time...can this be overlaid on an Epi headstock?

To clarify:
Playing an Epiphone and liking it -- cool.
Playing a Gibson and liking it -- cool.
Pretending your Epiphone is a Gibson -- not cool.

Re: Stuuuupid question time...can this be overlaid on an Epi headstock?

Ha ha, pretty much what I expected, but wanted to check it out just in case.

To address a few of the "concerns", I didn't want to try and pass off my Epi as a Gibson (see original post). As a matter of fact, I actually don't give a hoot what name is on the headstock, and I certainly would never ever, ever try to sell it with such a mod and pretend it was a Gibson if that's the name chose to put on it. I just truly detest the Epiphone headstock, and the Gibson headstock cover was the only thing I saw as an example. If you don't hate the Epi headstock, I don't expect you to understand why I do, just accept that I do.

I certainly do NOT have to skills to do all that would be required, and I certainly would not have spent $60 on that thing. Like I said, I don't even have the dough, but I thought it would be interesting to see if anyone had attempted this because I know there is a lot of hate for the Epiphone headstock. I really enjoy the guitar, just not the headstock.

As far as this being a lame thread, please see the title to know that I know it was a lame question, but I wanted some opinions, and I get a kick out of a lot of the insults as well, which there weren't too many of. I'm proud to say that I'm not afraid to ask the stuuuupid question. Remember, sometimes it takes folks who are actually thinking right to put those of us that aren't, back on the correct path. You guys are like my doctors. Fix me up, bros, lol.

Well there's one persons opinion. Here's another. It's your guitar, and if your not trying to pass it off to anyone else as a Gibson, then WHO CARES what you do to YOUR guitar.

Exactly.

If you like your Epi and it sounds good then just go with it. No need to be a poser.

Yep. Opinions. Goddamn those people and their opinions.

Exactly how does modifying a piece of your guitar make you a poser? We change pots, pickups, caps, strings, tuning pegs, all sorts of ****, but we draw the line with the shape of the wood? That seems pretty snobby to me.

I think we're specifically talking about a peghead veneer that covers up one brand name with another.

After he stated clear as day that his intention was not to disguise his shame, but to change the shape of a headstock that he thought was ugly. He also made very clear that he doesn't care what the headstock says. Why is everybody rushing to judgment over a guitars cosmetics. It'll still play like an epiphone.

See, I don't know why anyone would see anything wrong with that...UNLESS the owner was trying to pass it off as a real Gibson or worse yet, try to sell it as a real Gibson. Please understand that it isn't the name Epiphone on the headstock that bothers me. It is the shape of the headstock. I love the headstock on my 1968 Epiphone Casino, which is a lot different from these new ones, and the new Epi headstocks don't bother me on the hollow bodies, just the SGs and Les Pauls.

It's like having a girl with a gorgeous body, but a face you can't look at, lol. I don't know why I hate the shape of the headstocks so much, I just do. When I'm playing the guitar, and it sounds so good, and feels so good, when and I'm rockin' it, the headstock is the furthest thing from my mind. But when I'm looking at it in the case or in photos....eeew.
