+1about the part where necks that a player finds difficult can ultimately improve one's playing...I started on nylon acoustic, then got a very lousy Martin 12-20, which had a neck like a trainwreck ( new guitar, just crap) Then got a very good 6string Yairi that I still have, THEN went electric, got a Gibson 345, so that became the electric neck for me. Then added a 63 Gibson Melody Maker, which was good, got an Ibanez RG450 in '86, which has a narrow neck and for a long time I figured it had the best neck ever. Last year I got a D'Angelico Ex-DC, which is a Gibson 335 in disguise and found that it was as good as ever...I now have no problem changing guitar necks and (lightswitch goes on) all necks are cool, from the thickness of a '51 tele I got to play at a blues jam, to the new Ibby Wizard necks which sort of remind me of Les Paul neck width but with no backside...like the one guy said, find a guitar that speaks to your soul and let the neck thing take care of itself.

Thanks, it's good to hear that perspective. I'll try not to limit myself too much!

Not sure on all of the specs but maybe check out Jay Tursers? They are great bargain guitars!
Thanks!

Thank you! Cool to find out about stuff like this. I'd be curious to try that asymmetrical neck.

Get a MIM body and afix a a Fender 12" radius MIM neck. I forgot exactly which MIM necks have the 12" radius, but they are equipped with medium jumbo frets and have the standard c-shape. Very good necks, but you'll come in way over 200 bucks.

Thanks; it' always good to hear different strategies. I didn't know some of the MIMs had 12" radius. Good to know.

Speaking of pricier guitars, the Silo 3 led me to the Music Man site. I'd never really looked at their selection of guitars. Not that I'm not grateful for what I have, but holy crap, some of those guitars look nice. Even just from a design standpoint.

I just looked and' Allparts' and 'WD' both have budgt necks priced around 120 bucks.

here is one;

of course, they will need set up-fret leveling.

The Fender 12" radius neck is the ' Deluxe players' They also have another one - 'Lonestar'? . IIRC, the Fender DLX Players necks come both maple and Rosewood. They might run close to $200, but maybe worth it cause of the excellent Fender fretwork out of the box.

I also see some cheap Chinese 12" radius necks, but that may be a gamble, and certainly in need of lots of fretwork.

Well, like my only other post on this forum, my problem worked itself out. I picked up the Peavey Predator and fell in love with it. It's got a wider nut but it doesn't bother me. It's got a pretty thin neck I guess, about 1mm thicker than the viper neck. I think it was the thickness that felt most awkward to me on the Roadstar. I thought the finish on the maple fretboard of the Peavey might potentially bother me, but it's OK. In fact, the feel and sound of the maple is a large part of what I dig about the guitar. Love the pop it's got to it and the glassy ice skate feel. I appreciate the info on all the other guitars though, I'm glad I'm aware of them now.

Pre-owned Yamaha Pacifica or RGX models, perhaps?

I put some new strings on it and blocked the tremolo. I've got some more things I want to do to it... I'm sure I'll be posting a thread asking pickup and wiring questions in the near future.

Nice guitar! I like similar specs on mine. I use Music Mans most of the time, and their import SUB series has similar specs to what you are looking for in your price range. Fun guitars to mod too.

Also, check the necks on Yamaha Pacificas - I love the feel of mine (a 112v)... It's a hair flatter at 13.75", but not horribly so...

ETA: what I get for not reading alllll the way through the thread... ECHO... echo...
