Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

Re: Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

+1 the Fender M80 line amps sound great and for some reason they can be found on the cheap. Crystal clear cleans, tank reverb and amazing gain. I got an M80 Pro for $130 300 watts of pure power.

ugh, those M80s. I can tell ya why they're cheap; they're ugggggly. Fuzzy gray tolex.
I do remember being in a band with a guy who had an M80. I was renting a 2x12 Peavey Classic and I could not for the life of me keep up with his 1x12 "turd". We ended up putting his amp on the ground and away, and mine up on a counter. The drummer started complaining when it was aimed his way too. If you compare amps to cars, that thing's a 78 AMC Hornet with a turbo motor under the hood. Real sleeper.

Roland Blues Cube is amazing!! i play my bass and guitar through it sometimes when I don't feel like bringing my expensive tube amps around

Re: Suggest a good solid state clean amp with no dist/od/fx

the Carvin SX series does have nice cleans
I have a Laney GC80A that does the cranked marshall well
along with some nice cleans
they are on GC's used page right now for less than $250
the GC60 which is just the Electric amp of my Electric/Acoustic combo
is on the used list at about $150

you'll want reverb and an FX loop so go ahead and get something nice

on the other hand
what I have been experimenting with lately is

take a powered PA speaker ( in my case a Carvin PM12A or a PM15A at 400 Watts )
the run in a modeling pedal ( again in my case, a GNX3000 )
and it becomes my Gutiar/Bass/PA
all-in-one
grab-n-go
light weight and loud

well you get the picture
once everyone else is playing
no one notices I didnt bring a fragile vintage set up
they just like that I can send a Drum track thru the left channel to one of the PM15A's
and play bass on the right channel thru another PM15A

instant rhythm section

I like Polytones, but can't seem to find one locally, so I got myself a California and Strawberry Blonde from SWR. Fantastic cleans and reverb.

The best sounding solid state amps I've heard played by professionals were a Peavey Bandit and a Fender M80. Both can be had very cheaply. Buy one of each.

Vox just put out a no-frills solid state AC15/AC30 with the valvetronix 12ax7 tube to color the power section. I don't remember what they're called; the AC30VB I think?
