Re: Suggest me a chorus

Just get the &^%$%^$ Chorus Factory and set a tone you dig.

I actually think chorus is one of the trickier effects to find the 'right' one, after drives/distortion/fuzz of course. Some people want a cleaner double-tracked chorus, some want warm analog, some want lush multi-digital. Then you have some cool non-chorus choruses like detunes, double trackers, vibratos with a mix control, a double chorus like the Boss Dimension etc. Maybe I'm just extra picky at the moment because I'm looking for a chorus for my smaller board at the moment too.

I'd still go with the Catalina, as you can set it to be on for the clean intros, but when the distortion kicks in, it automatically turns off. It works really well.

How does that work? The manual doesn't mention this...

I agree. Chorus seems simple enough, but they tend to be one of those things where you delve through a few that are just completely WRONG until you finally find the right one that works clean, or distorted, and then it stays for a long time.

On a general thread note- dont overlook a electric mistress for chorusing. Worked for Lifeson and Summers very well

Essentially, it uses the volume envelope of the guitar note to turn off and on. In one mode, it gradually gets deeper as you play harder. In the other, it gets deeper as you play softer. It is gradual, not like an on/off, and it works really well. Yeah, It does the 80s thing really well.

Re: Suggest me a chorus

Larry Carlton uses the Visual Sound Liquid Chorus on his traveling pedalboard.

Great chorus and they can be had used for under $100.

Re: Suggest me a chorus

and honestly theres more than just myself inquiring about chorus pedals here in this thread. so far ive had three and it hasn't been the "one". the boss super chorus wasn't as warm as what I wanted and the boss ce-5 just didn't have enough presence to me. the nano clone was great clean but when you engage distortion with it ....well it became a hissy pissy mess. mi have been eyeballing visual sounds because the H2O has that chorus delay combo. for me I want a warm analog chorus with as less hiss as possible when used with distortion. I play a lot of iron maiden and 80's type metal. I thought about an electric mistress but that venture with the nano clone has me a bit concerned by way of electro harmonix. Plus I'm a solid state sort of girl so naturally these are gonna sound different through my amp than say a valve amp.

Re: Suggest me a chorus

As Aceman has said, the Digitech CF-7 has a lot of chorus models in it, I'm sure you could find one you like. They come up used on de' bay cheap sometimes but they are great pedals.

The other "versatile" choice would be the TC Corona Chorus, with the Toneprint app you can download and try dozens of toneprints from their website. You can go to go here - http://www.tcelectronic.com/corona-chorus/toneprints/ and check out all the downloadable toneprints (they have sound clips of them). You should be able to find a used one on de' bay for ~$100 or less.

It's hard to find a single chorus sound that works for clean and distortion, but that's just what Paul Gilbert was going for with his toneprint - http://www.tcelectronic.com/corona-...ona-chorus-paul-gilbert-triple-caramel-apple/

If you want an analog chorus, the H2O is nice, but you are limited to that one sound so I would definitely try one to make sure it is the sound you are looking for.

And right there we narrowed the whole game down to:

Analog/thick, digital lush, or double track style (aka longer delay time).

Then, are you using it clean or distorted?

If you can't get in THAT ballpark….you are done.

And yes - I *almost* threw out Corona, but I'm a Digitech fanboi….

Re: Suggest me a chorus

Yep and as I said warm lush chorus that doesn't hiss like a snake when distorted. I've narrowed it down to visual sound h2o, corona and the dreamscape

Re: Suggest me a chorus

Well, threw down on a used CF7. we'll see. If not, will have to try the corona or catalina. Im a modeling newbie. does it cost to add the tone prints to the pedals?

Re: Suggest me a chorus

No, toneprints are all free. You can also download the software and create your own, again, free.

Oh yeah, if you get noise from the CF-7, try running it on it's own power supply, or it's own isolated power if you are running a brick with multiple isolated outputs.

How about the TC Dreamscape?

That's what I'm trying to land now. Put an offer in on ol evil bay. We shall see if I land it

Thanks for both pieces of info! Will look into the power supply if it doesn't work with my power block. Its supposed to be in excellent shape, scored for $45. I hope it fits the bill.. Im tired of the hunt.. wanna get my board done and be good for awhile.. 2 more things after this. Delay and power supply for board 2

Re: Suggest me a chorus

My chorus of choice is the Rocktron Deep Blue. I like a warm rich sounding chorus preferably analog and it must be quiet. I have owned everything from the Boss to TC electronics to Ibanez you name it and to my ear nothing else comes close. Got spoiled by Rocktron Chorus sounds back in the 1990's - early 2000's when I ran a Voodoo Valve rig. These once were only around $60 new but have been discontinued and have gotten pricey. I own 2 and love um!
Some of my old Rocktron clean tones.
