Re: Suggest me a pickup

That's all fine and good, but you don't even mention what type of tone or even what kind of music you like to play. If it were up to me being a metal
guitarist, I would say to go for the SH-6b Distortion or an EMG-81 wired for 18 volts.
This may be a great choice for you but we don't know what you want tonally.

Re: Suggest me a pickup

Good point! I thought of that after I was offline.

I want a rock/metal machine. I have I PV Ultraplus amp, so the amp has plenty of distortion. Want a nice fat chunk on my mutes, but a searing lead tone and no icepick..

I really like the BLues Trembucker tonally. Something like that with more output. Wanna hear my tubes getting pushed..

Re: Suggest me a pickup

You've got a lot of bases covered. This might be a fun time to try one of the LiveWire's, or maybe a mini or Phat Cat. :)

Re: Suggest me a pickup

Dude -go for broke: DiMarzio X2N! Have one in a Kramer wired Series/Parellel/Single with a mini-switch. More fun than Guns & Roses locked in a hotel room with a case of Jack, a pound of blow, and six strippers!

Re: Suggest me a pickup

Aceman, Interesting description there!! Almost made me want to rush out and buy one!!
What does it sound like tonally? I was thinking x2n, 500xl, or invader.

Or active as Artie said.. Ive never used an active..

Re: Suggest me a pickup

Sorry for the Delay in responding! You lose track of a thread occassionally...

Louder than H*&^%! I descrivbe it as uncalled for in any situation. That said - A fairly even EQ curve, obviously some compression...Did I say LOUD?!?!?!?

The Parallel and series settings are uber cool though! In Para, it can clean up nicely, really much more transparent. Nicely bright in that mode. When in series, it's still mondo hot for an SC with excellent cut. I hate to sound like the DiMarzio advert on this thing, but it's pretty accurate.

And of course, if you want to pimp-slap a preamp tube into next week, while still maintaining that non-sterile passive pup mojo, it's a mofo!

Re: Suggest me a pickup

Maybe one day Ill humor myself and try one. How does it compare to a super D? I have Super D's in my Ace frehley Epi.. It came with 3 but the neck was too hot. Put a Paf pro in the neck.

Re: Suggest me a pickup

Frehley actually did that on an axe or two, or maybe just a PAF. I have a PAF Pro in a Yamaha and love it. Anyway, doesn't matter - he only plays the bridge anyhow. I don't (surprisingly) have a super D. I will say that I have played them and compared to that or my Duncan D, it's still, well, Nigel Tufnel said it best: "When you want just a little more, where do you go?" X2N is "11" It's one of those things you'll love or hate. If you have a slight sense of humour and a little attitude, I'd say you'll like it. Definitely go with the three way mini though, that really makes it a flexible fun pup.
