Suggest some guitars with P90's for me

I've been thinking about my next guitar and would like to look into getting one with P90's. I usually play punk or some type of heavier rock, but would like to get a single coil axe to play some other styles (for example, the Beatles). Hopefully I'll get out this weekend to a shop or two to try some out. Any suggestions on what to try and what to stay away from?

See? You're done shopping, and now you can play.

If you're going to get a Reverend, this is the one to get:

You can't sound bad looking this cool.

If you really want to go Beatles/pop, an Epi Casino is a good bet for the money. Another ggod deal lately is the 90's LP Special; I see them going for 600 bucks or so...although you may want to swap out the P100s.

MONDO Beatles fan over here, but I couldn't bond with the Casino. It felt very cheap and second-rate in my hands.

My Gibson ES-135 has p-90's and it's semi-hollow so it gets you in the vicinity of the jangle of the beatles stuff....not quite like the full hollow of the casino, but it'll work. I paid about a grand for my 135 used (since they discontinued them with p90's)

+1. I have a Casino & like it a lot; put in Duncan P-90's & it sounds great. Epiphone also has a Wildcat (or Alley Cat) with P-90's, and the ES295 (a 175 in gold). In recent limited editions they also have '56 LP Std in black (the regular '56 is a gold top), and a triple P-90 Riviera "P-93" (I got one of these from Music123: wine red, gold hardware, & a Bigsby). I also recently picked up a nice P-90 SG Special by Michael Dolsey.

There are P-90 guitars out there, but you have to do a little looking. Maybe manufacturers will realize that they've flooded the market with HB guitars, and could increase sales by doing something different. There's a number of new guitars evey year that are greeted with a collective yawn by the public, but put P-90's in them & a segment of players start to salivate. To my way of thinking, all the successful designs should be offered in both HB & P-90 versions by most manufacturers (LP, SG, 335, 175, V, etc). And a bridge HB/neck P-90 is a very good combination too. Why have hundreds and hundreds of models of these, all with HB's only? What differentiates them? And they wonder why sales are slow.

PRS SE Soapbar --- you can find demos at the link in my sig --- my best sounding guitar.

Woah...that SG with P90's looks awesome! Nice choices everyone!

How are the Reverend Guitars in general? I've never seen one before and they look cool?

Also, how is the quality of the PRS SE models? Are they like Epiphone where you need to find a gem in a crowd, or all they all pretty decent for the price?

+1... B Bent just got one of these recently and it's got a GREAT sound and plays really well..... OH, and BONUS: it looks awesome!

Don't think they make them anymore though... but I'm sure you might be able to find one on the used market

Nice! It's a lot like my Riviera P-93. I don't know why the concept of a 335 with P-90's wasn't pushed decades ago by the big manufacturers. The Casino (330) is nice, but for when you're playing loud on stage, a 335 is the way to go.

They are the opposite --- they play and feel like real PRS guitars but cost a lot less.

The cost savings come in with the lack of bird inlays, flame tops, and of course their Korean manufacture.

Paul Reed Smith employees literally flew to Korea and taught the builders, one on one, how they made guitars in Stevensville, MD. They said they trained them just like they were new hires at the Stevensville, MD plant.

On Soapbar models like mine that have the one-piece pre-intonated stoptail, it is said that the tailpiece is "unique to PRS and can be used because PRS manufacturing tolerances are so tight, guaranteeing that the distance between witness points will be within a few thousandths of an inch from guitar to guitar."

Their Korean line has tight enough tolerances in manufacturing that they can put pre-intonated one piece tails on them. That's better than any American manufacturer I know.

Sounds like something to look into. How many Korean P-90 models do they have?

the coolest thing about it is the P90 guitar will sound better for punk and hard rock than any of your other guitars, too.

anything like a Les Paul Special or SG Special will be exactly what you need. or you could get a cheap Melody Maker and route it for P90's. Or you could put Phat Cats or P-Rails in any of your current humbucker guitars...
