Suggest some low-wattage tube amps for me

I'm startin to look around for a new amp...somthing small, between 15 and 35 watts, all tube, combo, etc. Preferably under $1000 used.

I'm looking for somthing that'll get some pretty unreal clean tones, and a nice *slightly* pushed tone. I got my KRANK as my gain machine. Nowadays I'd like to branch out a little more though, and have somthing that'll break out the clean jams like a champ.

I know its a pretty vauge description...I'm of course gonna be tryin out a few amps round the local guitar stores as well. Just thought I'd go in with a few suggestions in mind ;).

Mesa DC-3, Maverick, Nomad 45, or F-30.

All are pro-quality, EL84-based amps that should be well within your budget.

A Mesa Blue Angel will also fit the specs, and has a switchable power amp that uses both 6V6s and EL84s.

Get a Laney combo, either VC or LC series. You know you want the amp Opeth uses lol. They are awesome on the clean channel and the gain is great too. The LC-15 is a class AB single channel amp that I love personally, has amazing reverb. The VC's are class A two channel amps I believe, and are the best clean amps you will find short of a vintage fender I think. And I do own a vintage fender...

check out the hughes and kettner edition tube 20 if you can, the cleans are pretty awesome on mine, IMO.

Mesa.Blue.Angel.

the most gorgeous clean below $1k. varies between 18-38 watts, since it has 6v6s and el84s.

That little orange looks pretty interesting. Too bad there aren't any places round here that carry 'em.

The mesa stuff'll be easy to find...I'll give a few of those a shot. I'll see if I can't search out any of the others.

Thanks guys, keep em comin!

Re: Suggest some low-wattage tube amps for me

Just went into guitar showcase today...seems like their selection is pretty limited. They've got the rediculously expensive amps out, as well as a nice selection of mesa/boogies, but thats about it. This is probably gonna be a bit harder than I first imagined.

Whadda ya'll think of the Traynor combos? Those had caught my eye, but I doubt I'll be able to find em anywhere round here.

I have the Traynor YCV40 with a V30 in it and it's great! Nice cleans that are a cross between fender and vox, plus a gain channel that actually sounds good. Most moderate priced amps I've tried give you one or the other but not two very good channels in one amp. It plays well with pedals but I usually wind up just running the gain channel by itself with my OD pedals just sitting there, it sounds that good. Good tubes are really important however. Check out the revues on HC, it's hard to find a bad one anywhere!

Re: Suggest some low-wattage tube amps for me

I'm currently thinking about buying a low wattage valve amp myself and have pretty much worked my options down to 2 amps:

The Orange Tiny Terror which was mentioned above, or a Matamp Minimat www.matamp.com

Both are cheap amps, but going by sound clips, they both seem to sound very good indeed :)
