Re: Suggested humbucker for Telecaster?

Anyone have samples of the PG for Tele????
Thinking of trying the Rio Grande Dirty Harry set first.

Chopper T

This (DMZ). Had a Tele with one, great rock pup, and still is on the brighter end. The QP is also a great choice.

Have not used a lil 59 in a Tele, but I really liked it in the bridge of a Strat for rock as you describe.

Too bad, I hate Fender amps. Would love to hear this through a high gain amp!

Re: Suggested humbucker for Telecaster?

I don't like guitars that can't get me through a whole gig. My traditional American strat with three single coils is like that. I will bring the strat out for some songs and it sounds great for those. However, I don't want another guitar that only gets used on a few songs. With that in mind, I will need a beefier tone from the bridge pickup. That is where the P-90 sounding pickups come into play. If they fail, I feel I will have to go to a mini or stacked humbucker in the bridge. Maybe that Custom shop Pearly Gates, could get it done, but I would need it to balance with the Twisted Tele neck single.

I wish Rio Grande made a mini BBQ for a Tele.

On the Pearly gates for Tele. In some photos, it looks like a stacked bucker, then in other photos it is a mini bucker. What gives?

I may just spend the busck and get the custom shop Pearly Gates. I am sure it rocks. But, will it balance with my Twisted Tele neck single? Rio Grande makes a mini BBQ, but it is the size of a P-90. :(
Why have I seen two variations of the Pearly Gates for Tele? Stacked and side by side coils?

I may try the Rio Grande Dirty Harry set first.

Guys, what would be a good neck pickup for the Pearly Gates Tele bridge???

50 posts... buy something

Dude, I buy lots of stuff. A set of Celestion G12k-100s arrived Friday. I just got my Tele, bought a modified Dual Rectifier last week, just bought new CTS pots last week. I have a Rio Grande nickel covered BBQ on the way, and a Duncan 59/Custom on the way. Oh, and I preordered some Celestion Creambacks. Finally, I am buying a Rio Grande Dirty Harry this week.

...you were saying?

Re: Suggested humbucker for Telecaster?

You know!? I don't want to spend a lot, so I just ordered the Dimarzio Chopper T and will report back!

Re: Suggested humbucker for Telecaster?

Guys, I decided I should keep a Tele a Tele and go with a hot noiseless single or P-90 type pickup. So, maybe the Quarter Pound Tele set will do it for me! Are they noiseless?
Thanks!

Re: Suggested humbucker for Telecaster?

I decided I have to have humbucker in every one of my guitars. middle or neck is fine as single or P-90 but when I play high gain, I need humbuckers! I have played my my friend's Tele with a Little 59 bridge and it still sounds like a Tele, you still hear the construction and character. I love it!

Would love the custom shop Pearly Gates for Tele but I can;t see spending $150 for one bridge pickup.

Richie. Dude. You know we're all here to help you in your tone quest, but this is getting kind of crazy...

:smack:

Your first post said you wanted a humbucker. So did your last post. And there were a billion posts in between with a billion different suggestions and options.

I realize that at times, gear can be decision-overload, but don't get distracted by your tech, your friend, or anyone else. Go with your gut.

You played the little 59, and liked it.

Get the little 59, and PLAY!!!!!!

:D

Re: Suggested humbucker for Telecaster?

I just bought a Duncan Little 59 for Tele and a Duncan Vintage Stack Rhythm pickup with polished black cover! I will report once installed with 500K volume pot. :)

Is it a pain in the ass to change tele pickups and pots? I want to install a Little 59 and 500k volume. Second question, the neck pickup is a great sounding single coil. So you think I should replace it with a stacked pickup to better match the output of the bridge 59? If I can use the single I will just sell the stacked neck bucker.

Hi all,

Appreciate all the suggestions. I have been running the Lil 59 for a while now.

I like it but not thrilled. I think I want to try the Custom Shop little Pearly Gates for Tele.

Any comments on this?
