Suggestions for a Les Paul Standard

I'm new to this forum and to this pickup thing and I got an EPIPHONE Les Paul Standard so I want to change the pickups in it. I pretty know how to but to be safe, I think I'm going to go to the place I get my lessons and tell them to install them.

Anyway, I play everything but mostly stuff with distortion. So I was thinkin about the SH-6 Distortions pickups but I don't know if they are decent (I mean like good enough) for blues and jazz as well. If you have any suggestions of what to put into my LP, any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

Jazz or 59N for the neck. JB for the bridge...or the Distortion would be fine too. The Distortion is pretty much a JB with a ceramic magnet instead of the alnico 5 magnet the JB comes with.

I've put the Jazz/JB or 59N/JB set in three Epi Les Pauls and every one turned into a totally pro sounding guitar. You can also split the coils and have single coil Stratty sounds by replacing your tone pots with pots with push/pull switching to split the coils.

There are many, many combinations of humbuckers that also sound great but the Jazz/JB combo is Seymour's favorite.

welcome to the forum!!

the sh6b would be good for the bridge but you might want to think about something a little less over the top for the neck. a jazz or 59 is a good place to start, good cleans and a nice distorted tone. it will make the guitar more versitle but youll still have a killer crunch in the bridge

I would go for the DD/jazz combo!!

C-5/Jazz or CC/59 The first one is tight powerful and articulate, and best for clean to distortion switching. The second one is warmer and will make any Paul sound great. Either combo will make you happy.

Jazz neck and 59 Bridge is my Favorite Duncan combo.

The Jazz is Rich and Creamy, Excellent in the neck.

The 59 Bridge is very versatile. It will go anywhere from AC/DC to ZZ Top, and beyond if used correctly.

I love the Harmonic Texture of the 59B, very nice overtones.
It seems to allow your Guitar to " Breathe ", and puts the Player back into the equastion. It's a PAF style pickup, but it's plenty Hot enough. Has Great Harmonics, just an all around Excellent pickup. ............:)

i think any of those would be good, but what does your guitar sound like unplugged? does it have a nice sounding low end or high end? is it mid heavy? also what kind of amp do you use? I ask this for the jazz and blues more than the distortion tones.

I personally like the 59 in the neck for all your cleans and some distortion. the DD would be good in the bridge and will give you a few good distortion tones, plus the middle switch position will sound really good also.

Actually, that's my tastes too. I always suggest the Jazz/JB or 59N/JB set just because it does sound great and it seems to make most younger players the happiest...they seem to like a hotter bridge pickup than the 59B.

The other set that hasn't been mentioned and which sounds killer in a Les Paul is a set of Pearly Gates.

Then there's the Antiquity and Seth Lover too! :smack:

But it seems that the younger guys like hotter sets...so we're back to the Jazz/JB or 59N/JB again... :) ...or the Custom, or the Custom 5 or the Custom Custom or the........ :laugh2:

Re: Suggestions for a Les Paul Standard

Definetely a JB/Jazz. The JB will compliment the nice thick bottom end of the LP with it's singing uppermids. Make for one badass bridge sound.

The Jazz, well what more could you ask for? A nice bright, shimmering crystal clear pickup when you want to clean it up a bit. Split, there's quite nothing like the pair.
