Suggestions for a new guitar strap.

I love these straps. But I keep a strap on each guitar so I have a lot of different styles but this one is cool

I have one of these...don't use it much any more but it's a great strap for a little coin.

Re: Suggestions for a new guitar strap.

I will only use a leather strap. And I never store a strap against the finish. I don't like metal buckles or anything on the strap that can damage the finish.

I like Levy's, Franklin, Italia, Moody's and several others. With 55 guitars and each with its own strap, I've become a real strap maven.

I'm rather portly, so I like a long strap. Franklin's often go to 56". Levy's vary but you can order longer lengths. Many of the smaller companies like Italia will allow you to order custom lengths. I have an old upper back injury and wanted a longer strap with a longer body, not just a long tail. They were willing to do this, and the custom work wasn't that expensive. Make a call.

Re: Suggestions for a new guitar strap.

I've got 4 or 5 from a manufacturer called LeatherGraft, but I believe they are UK based. They are nicely made leather (as you might imagine), with a decent width on them and are well padded. I've no idea whether they export to the US, but I suspect you could find something very similar locally anyway. You can see a few examples on this page from my local dealer (they of the Tokai's) - http://fretsguitarcentre.co.uk/contents/en-uk/d412_Quality_Guitar_Straps.html

Re: Suggestions for a new guitar strap.

I have gravitated toward Franklin suede straps also, mainly because they are the most comfortable straps sold at Guitar center. I don't play with the band often, but when I do, I'm usually standing for 5 - 6 hours wearing one or more planks of mahogany on my shoulder. Suede is the best material I've found (personally) for endurance rawking.

I don't use strap locks because (a) they always seem to come loose and I've dropped more guitars that had locks on them than not, and (b) I have dinged the finish on at least one guitar with the strap lock end. I like the idea of adding a large rubber washer to hold the strap, though.

I try to let each guitar have its own strap, and I don't worry about removing straps when storing a guitar in its case. I've never had a problem doing this.

Re: Suggestions for a new guitar strap.

Now that I think about it, I use 2.5" Franklin straps on most of my Gibsons. I usually try to get the color and stitching color to compliment the guitar.

With Fenders, I rarely use a leather strap......it's usually whatever trendy strap catches my eye. I'm a big fan of the Dunlop grommet strap. I use one with my new Cornell sig ES-335 and it looks great because the nickel grommets match the guitar's hardware.

Haven't tried a lot of different ones, but I like Franklin and Italia straps.

A note on Italia: They are pretty expensive, and while I won't say they aren't worth what they normally cost, if you can wait, sign up for their e-mail alerts as they periodically have sales. I got mine on a buy one, get one free deal.
