Suggestions for Classic Rock Repertoire expansion

Re: Suggestions for Classic Rock Repertoire expansion

i get what you're trying to say hellion, that while regarding the skill level necessary to please a crowd, less is more, but if i was out to only appeal to the public, i'd be playing britney spears and hip hop covers at concerts! I pretty much wanted a good variety of interesting songs so that i could improve as a player, but i don't play live, so i wouldn't know what the public likes. Thanks for the advice on that topic though, and good song suggestions!

No, that really isn't what I was trying to say. I'm sorry, I may have gotten a bit on the soapbox. You and I are from different generations and I can't comprehend the appeal of Britney Spears (aside from the dirty old man in me that finds her attractive) or today's hip-hop. It's all just noise to me. It's not really that less is more, it's just that I was seeing a lot of really great songs being listed that don't strike me as "public friendly". It may be just this area that I'm in, but I've found from my experience that playing "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" will fill a dance floor faster than "Roundabout". And that's the businessman in me, I guess. I'll try to keep from getting so passionate about the theory end of it next time!

Hellion had the best advice, but what thing quenchno I beleive missunderstood is that, the kind of gigs that you will probably get are bar gigs bar/resturaunt, and clubs and events and such. most of the time you will want to play classic rock or blues, because most people at bars and small clubs are older people with a liking for that music.

Anything by Hendrix, Robin Trower, Stevie Ray, Allman Bros, Mountain, Led Zepplin (I like their acoustic stuff the most).....the list can go on and on.
