Suggestions for Ibanez GAX70L

Hey all,

I'm new to the tech stuff, but I just picked up a new Ibanez GAX70L (yes, I'm a lefty... and it's about time the GAX series gave us some love). Anyway, on to my question. I'm interested in replacing the stock pups w/ SH-11 (Custom Custom) on the Bridge and SH-6 (Duncan Distortion) on the neck. Anyone have any experience with how this combo will complement my rig?

The type of sound I'm looking for is something closer to the modern alternative and Heavy Metal Rock side. I mainly play rhythm using either both pups or just the neck, and frequently switch between using clean and dirty, so I'd like something that gives me both smooth cleans, yet can still blow the friggin' windows out with some mean distortion and chunky mutes. I currently use the Ibanez Tone Blaster Head and Cabinet Half-Stack, with a Boss MetalZone pedal and a Crybaby Wah.

Well I just put a 59n/C-5b in my GAX70 and it sounds great. I'm mostly playing 70's rock and stuff so I don't know it that would work for metal but it's a great combo in the GAX.

That should be a cool combo. The Custom series is awesome, because a simple magnet swap gives you either a Custom, Custom Custom, or Custom 5.

You may want to consider the TB-11 for the bridge. Trembuckers line up better in my AX w/ a tune-o-matic.
