Looking for a mellow phaser pedal. Just something to make my tone more liquid, nothing crazy.

Two stage phasers should do it:
DOD 201 (currently on my board)
MXR 45

The EHX small stone, although with more stages, works for some for that purpose.

A script Phase 90 is a great sound. Or the Whirlwind Orange Box phaser.

The DOD 201 sounds nice. Obviously I'd have to try it out but... I'll see

Oh also, I tried out the tchula at my local guitar store and holy ****. I brought it home with me and it sounds beautiful, it's the gold one.

Re: suggestions for MELLOW phaser

I agree on the 2 stage, Phase 45 or Phase 95, DOD201, Keeley Phase 2/4, etc.

Re: suggestions for MELLOW phaser

The hand wired Script Phase 45 reissue is a thing of beauty and worth looking into. It's also a bit cheaper than its prestigious sounding name would have you think.

Re: suggestions for MELLOW phaser

Phase is a gateway drug to Chorus and Flanger.

I kid i kid.

MXR - but don't run the Speed at 11 -you could OD

Re: suggestions for MELLOW phaser

Notice how many people voted for the 45. (But I cannot speak for for it - mine i a script 90)

So I wanted to add that using the four knobs of a flanger (like MXR M117, Boss BF2, Maxon...) you could also tweak a mellow liquid tone (Keep the regen at zero, manual around noon and not much depth. Speed as you like...

I mean Flanger is a stronger effect than a classic MXR phaser, but as it is more tweakable you can get those softer effects.

is there a difference between block and script phase 45s?

The 45 has fewer all-pass filter stages. So the phasing isn’t as strong.

The block models have a different circuit with more feedback (regeneration) which makes the sound sharper.

This is why I don’t care for the block Phase 90. The script version is very smooth and mellow.

Re: suggestions for MELLOW phaser

if you get a 201, get the newer reissue one. the power jack is standard-sized and it has the typical orientation to ground. older is goofy in both regards. plus the new one has an LED.

Re: suggestions for MELLOW phaser

I built a kit Phase 45 from GGG and added a Uni-vibe mode switch, not a real UV, but it sounds great on both settings. So, I guess I'm suggesting a P45 too, more subtle than the 90, like 45 less or something : popworm:

Re: suggestions for MELLOW phaser

My all-purpose answer to all phaser questions: MXR Phase 95. It will do the 45 in both script and block modes. If you want something thicker, it does the 90 sounds, to. Four phasers in one for a bargain prices.
