Suggestions on a 7 String.

I'm looking for a decent, but not too expensive 7 string to get. I just want one to play around on and see if I like it or not before dumping an a**load of money on a really nice one.

I'm going to look for a used one, but was wondering what everyone else had, and if they liked them or not?

Re: Suggestions on a 7 String.

Ive played on a few, my friend has one.

I feel like my playing is 'corrupted', there is no definition of the individual notes in a chord played on the low notes due to the low tuning.

My friend does not like his so much because he is into playing tab and is tired of petrucci and noticed not many guitarists play 7 string

Schecter's just put out a new Blackack seven-string based off of the C1. I've read good things about it and it comes stock with Duncans. Goes for about $600.

Their old Revenger and C7 models are pretty good too. You can find those for less than $300 on eBay.

Bah (about the lack of clarity of notes and tuning) ... (Seven String user here)

I have a Dean Evo Special 7 (Avatar) and it's a really solid guitar), it's great for the Classic Rock/Blues based stuff that I work on with my drummer.

I find that it resonates for days and IMO feels more like a solid guitar than the Ibanez ones I tried.

The problem is that there are very few people who still make production 7 strings out there. I can think of Ibanez and ESP at the momment ... but still.

Personally I'd love to see a 1963 styled Fender Strat that was a seven string, S/S/S config. as well

Re: Suggestions on a 7 String.

you should try an ibanez 7-string... not sure what they cost, but I played on my friend's K-7 and it wasnt half bad.

Re: Suggestions on a 7 String.

Thanks guys.

I'm not too sure about the low tuning issues, as a seven string is in standard with an extra string, although I might play around with going down one step and pretend I'm in Korn for a while.

I was looking at some Ibanez and Schecter models, I just don't know what to get? I'd like a middle of the road model, as I don't think fighting with a cheap guitar is conducive to learning.

-------

The K-7 better be good. The cheapest I found one was $2400CAD! Hence the reason I'm looking for a cheaper one. (mind you, that was about six months ago, it could be cheaper now)

Re: Suggestions on a 7 String.

Sorry, you missed my RG1077XL by about a month ;)

But I´m glad she´s finally gone, the AT-1 is a much better catch :smoker:

Re: Suggestions on a 7 String.

I've got 2 seven-string guitars and now I hardly touch my six-string guitars.

My view on a seven-string guitar is that it is an enhanced 6-string - you can still play all the stuff you could on a 6-string, and now you've got an extra string to play with! Apart from using it for nu-metal etc., something I'll do is slap a capo on at the third fret, so that with a little refingering, you can play songs that are detuned a tone on a 6-string on a 7-string in standard tuning.

You're only really gaining 5-notes, but you gain a little bit more than that to your sound I think, because playing an A on the seventh string sounds different to on the 6th or 5th strings. You've probably guessed I like 7-string guitars

As for something fairly inexpensive to try out, have you thought about a Squire Stagemaster 7-string? I picked one up on ebay a few months ago for £130. It plays fairly well, has a 24-neck and a contoured heel etc, nice for the price. Changing out the pickups will improve it too - I've just put a pair of EMG 707s in mine. They crop up on ebay from time to time, sometimes brand new.

Re: Suggestions on a 7 String.

From what I've played, the RG's tend to be better. The AX 7-strings are VERY neck-heavy and I can't stand overly neck-heavy guitars.

Oh! I almost forgot about ESP 7-strings. There are millions of used, discontinued LTD 7's on eBay for $300-$400. I've heard lots of good things about those. There's also the Stephen Carpenter sig model that comes with EMG's that runs a little pricier.

Re: Suggestions on a 7 String.

i prefer RG to AX (i have an ibanez k-7 guitar w/duncans)...and i prefer ibanez over the rest...that necks are the best imo, and i´ve tried a lot of sevens (old ltds and the stephen carpenter also)...i´d go with that 1527 or the 2077XL, but if you want the best, go for the k-7...

btw tunning down your seven 1 tone, doesn´t mean that you will sound like korn, keep in mind morbid angel, six feet under, zakk wylde (yap, i know, he does not use sevens but he often tunes his sixth like a seven, or even more low -counterfeit god tuned to G!!!) and many more

Thanks. I meant the Korn thing as more of a joke. After I get a seven string - and if I decide I like them enough to want a good one - I'll probably get the K-7. I just want to make sure I really want one before I dish out that much coin .
