Suggestions??

I'm thinking of changing out the JB in the bridge of my Les Paul Double Cut, it's a bit hot and feels a little 'samey'. It doesn't sound bad, just not quite it.

Have been thinking of going to either a Custom 5 or possibly a Screamin Demon.

Got a '59 in the neck which will never change, I LOOOOOVE THIS PICKUP!

Was just wondering if any one had tried these in a similar guitar or just had any recomendations?

why not a 59 in the bridge? Are you looking for more output from the bridge?

I have a Hamer Studio, which is very similar except for the 22 fret neck compared to the 24 fret neck on the Gibson. I have a Rio Grande BBQ in the bridge, which you might like. It really depends on what type of tone you're looking for. From your description, I get the feeling that you want something with a bit less output, and the BBQ certainly fits that description. It's a medium output pickup, and much less hot than the JB. It's a very thick and warm sounding pickup with a strong bass and midrange, and then slightly rolled off highs which sound warm and sweet instead of bright and piercing. It's a good choice if you don't have an overly dark-sounding setup to begin with.

Well, I had a pair of Pearly Gates in my Hamer Special FM (flat top version of the Studio). They sound a lot like the 59 with a little less bass and a touch more sizzle in the top end. While they were great pickups, they just weren't for me. I got a BBQ Bucker to put in the bridge and I'm going for a Genuine Texas on the bay tonight. If those don't work for me, then I'll probably go to a 59/59 set. I have those pickups in my Hamer Korina Artist semi-hollow body and they're had to beat.

What kind of tone are you looking for?

Yes, I'm looking for a lower output pickup for the bridge. The JB sounds ok but I prefer to use a stomp box to drive the preamp in my amp rather than the pickup.

the guy who invented fire I didn't want to go to low output, just something a bit fatter and NOT as hot or ceramic : )

Play all sorts from Marvelous 3, Foo Fighters, King's X, as well as your atandard cover band fodder also Nu Metal - Funk hybrid originals in a band where I'm more supporting the bass player than taking over the sound (strange but it works : ) so I still need a some output.

I've got a Lil Screamin Demon in my strat but had heard alot about the C5 being the better choice.

I like the Lil Demon but do the full size version sound the same?

Marvelous 3...excellent band. Those guys were the greatest live band that no one has ever heard of.

I'm not a big fan of the C5, unless you have a setup that's dark and heavy on the midrange. A lot of people like it, but I find it to be too bassy on the low strings, too bright on the high strings, and it's a bit scooped in the mids. But if you like the '59, you might like the C5, as it's basically a higher output version of the '59 with a little more bass and treble. I really wish Duncan made the Blues Trembucker in a standard spaced version, as it would probably be perfect for you. It's one of the greatest pickups ever made as far as I'm concerned. One other thing to keep in mind, since you already have a pickup you're interested in replacing, you can send that pickup in to the custom shop and they will rewind it for $75. Which means that you can turn it into any pickup, even a custom shop model, for $75. In that case, you might like the Jimmy Page model, the S-DECO 5 model, or you might like the Blues wind that I mentioned.
